Search not working!!...Simple Oil dipstick question
Allright this damn search is not working..
Just out of curiosity..On the oil dipstick from L to H how much oil does it signify?
EG my BMW manual says that on 540 L to H signifies 1.1 Quart. I couldn't find anything like this in Honda manaul.

Ok, I have another dumb question to add to this thread. I've never done any of my own work on my cars, but I'd like to learn. That being said, I've heard a lot about having to add a quart of oil to the S2k in between oil changes. Where to you put that in? I know, dumb question, but I'm just learning these things. Thanks!
You only add oil if it's low. There's a cap on the top of the head that says Oil or has the little logo, I don't remember. Unscrew that and pour the oil in there. When you get your S2000, come out to one of our Austin events and we'll show you all of this stuff. You're also welcome to come without an S2000.
Question: How long should one wait between adding oil and rechecking? Also I have heard some recommend checking the level on both sides of the dipstick and going by the lower reading if they are, in fact, different. Can't remember the reason that they recommended this.

Add oil, check 2-3 minutes later.
The difference from one side of the stick to the other is only about 1/2 to 1 full "X" when checked correctly - not a big deal.
To check correctly:
(When hot as recommended in owner's manual)
Upon shutting off car on level surface, immediately go out and pull out the dipstick, wipe it off and leave it out. Wait 2-3 minutes (longer if you have the time, like when your fueling up), put dip stick in all the way, pull it out and take your reading. Pulling the stick out ASAP after stopping the engine will get the oil down and away from the area around the tip of the stick so you're NOT reading the "splash zone" which can give you wildly differing levels. Capillary action and the oil's surface tension keeps the splash zone "dirty" for a long time as long as the stick is in there.
(When cold, like having sat overnite, and before you start the car for the first time that day)
This reading should be no more than 1 "X" different from the "HOT" check.
Pull out dip stick, wipe off, replace stick fully, pull out and take your reading. If you have a "splotchy" oil coverage, then you've still got oil in the "splash zone". In this case, do like before and leave the stick out for a few minutes before trying again. My experience has shown that the first "cold" oil check of the day is very simple and easy and the "splash zone" has drained away clean overnight.
It's not rocket science to check the oil in this car. You just have to understand what's going on here.
