The sh!tstorm has settled a bit, but just to reiterate for the OP, he is NOT at fault for having his seats stolen.

The THEIF is!!!

I truly don't understand how we as a society have arrived at a place where it is the owner's fault that something is stolen

My sincere condolences to the OP. Honestly, it sounds like your best bet is to just turn the car in early on the lease. Perhaps explain it to your insurance company and see if there is some way they and the dealership can work out a way to perhaps even credit you for the rental expenditure you would have needed to absorb had you had the car repaired and then returned it. It's clear that, barring extreme measures on your part, this is simply going to happen again.

Alternatively, you might discuss this with your local police department to have them use your car as a bait car and catch these guys finally. Three counts of vandalism and felony theft should be enough to get the local DA interested in things...
Or he could roll around and look for a Civic with his interior J/K

LOL I finally sent some $$ in to Kodokan last week for seat locks, even though I garage my car at home. The car has to come out of the garage sometime...

I don't think anyone was saying that it was actually dombey's FAULT.

Just that there were (very reasonable) things he could have done to limit his exposure.

There's a big difference between minimizing risk by taking precautions and being at fault.

When I bought my car 6 years ago, I installed an alarm with a battery backup (so they can't disable it), proximity sensors and a remote pager. I also installed seat locks, and when I'm not traveling, the car is always parked in my garage.

If everyone did what I have done, there would be far fewer stolen seats and everyone's insurance would benefit. It's not about blame - it's about risk avoidance.

By parking your car outside without an alarm and without seat locks, you are increasing the probability of having your seats stolen. I don't care how you candy-coat it, that's a risk I was not willing to take, but you were. If you were not willing to take that risk, you would have done something about it.

Wouldn't red loctite work just as well as seat locks, and cost a lot less?

Probably, but let's say they break into your car, can't get the seats out (after slashing your top), and then they get pissed and just slash your seats.

It's going to be tough for the shop tech to get those bolts out to replace the seats when they are frozen in place. Same scenario goes for any situation where the seats need to come out.
