Default Second gear not going into gear sometimes

Hello,

I have owned the s2000 since last Sept. Car has about 15k miles (my 2007).

I have experienced a few times now going from 1st to 2nd gear, the gear would pop back out or not going into gear. It is like somebody that just learn how to drive stick and mis-shifted.

The first few times, I thought it was the result of being lazy and not shifting it into gear.

Do any have this issue? I have owned and driven many manual cars through out the years and never had any issue.

I had owned both 350z and nissan had issues with their 03/04 car and I never had a problem.

That happened on my mazda3- it ended up being a bad syncro.

I'm guessing everyone on here will say "try changing transmission oil, if it doesn't get better, it's probably the syncros"

had the same kinda thing happen to me. only happened twice and in the same day. Im not sure if it was user error or not. tranny fluid has less than 500km on it, so cant be that. did you try bleeding your clutch fluid?

good point about the tranny fluid

but if other gears are fine, would that exclude clutch problem?

i think it's been mentioned a few times before i'm sure you'll definately find it if you search.

i remember people saying just be more cautious of going into second so it goes in all the way and it won't pop back out or something like that.

This is a well known issue with the ap2 tranny. There is a TSB on it. If you still have warranty, take it to the dealer. Hopefully they can do a decent rebuild, however the 3 rebuilt ap2 trannies I've seen were just not like new unfortunately. Good luck.

TSB 05-009

Contact your honda dealer, also if you have not already, change that tranny fluid. Use the Honda fluid.

Thanks guys. It has plenty of warranty. Car was registered Oct. 2007.

I haven't changed any fluid to the tranny yet.

It is one of those that you cannot "prove" to the dealer right away.

The first few times, I thought it was user error. I can say now it has happened at least 10 times since sept of last year (not too bad, about 1.5 times a month ).

I had an acura 1987 legend back in the days where 5th gear had a bad syncros that ended up needing a used tranny swap that costs almost $2k (lots of headache, car sat in the shop for 8 weeks cause they underestimated).

What suck is that I thought this would be my last car purchase for a long time cause I really like the car and tire of car payments. Now, I really don't know. I have bought a 350z coupe then a 350z roadster prior to the s2000 in the last 5 years.

Does anybody know how much it cost for a tranny fluid change? I know how to change it but it is much better for the dealer to do it just in case I need tranny work done in the future.
