After reading the 'Secret compartment' threads and laughing since "I know better", went out for a drive. The wife gets in, and sets a pair of cans into the cupholder. She's got her drink in hand as I pull away from the next light, so I'm trying to accelerate, shift, steer and keep the can from falling over. Suddenly, it dawns on me that the can isn't falling over, there's a pop-out divider holding the can in place at the middle of the cupholder! As I pull to the side of the road to look, it hits me- this little thing has been there for 8 months and I never knew it! Of course, she laughs and asks if the manual was still in the secret compartment...
Lo and behold, it's not mentioned in the manual, either. It folds down into the side, and pops up as shown once tapped.
...I call this my secret don't do jack retainer....the only way I can keep a cup vertical is to shove my wallet behind the cup. Anything else and my cup goes horizontal as soon as I take off. The 'two' cupholders in the MY04 are worthless
with CrazyPhuD. The cup holders are pretty much worthless. I use mine more for temporary storage than holding drinks.
As for knowing the S2000, spending over 2 years on this forum before buying my car gave me a BIG advantage. There's been no surprises as to what's what and where on the car.
Since almost all of the posts on this thread are made by '04 owners, I think I will hi-jack this thread to ask a question now. I just noticed today that I have three small dings on my passenger side door and one ding which took a small bit of paint (not enough to expose any primer or metal). It really hurt me to see it. Some jackass with a cheap and heavy (Chevy) jaloopy must have opened his door on me. Do you guys have any door dings on your '04s, if so, how many? I know the three little dents can't be pulled but what can I do to make the paint in that area look better. I don't want to use cheap touch-up paint or paint the whole door. I thought you guys might now some tricks. BTW, I am going to be buying a Zaino kit for maintaining the S, do they have anything that would help me out minimize the look of this troublesome ding?
