Remote pager, proximity sensor, battery backup car alarm. I picked up a Hornet alarm years ago through a group buy here. If someone messed with your ride, your remote pager would go off. The battery backup means that they can't disable the alarm by disconnecting the battery.

i just use a locked car cover and the club. might be futile cuz it seems like your car was already scoped out (or some dude was just checking it out).

considering you only mentioned the wheels and the seats as being valuable, i'm assuming you don't have too much work put into the car. i never understood why people are so concerned with seat locks, wheels locks, alarms, etc.. for example:

1) if you have seat locks, the thief will most likely either be able to break though them and steal as normal, or they will trash your interior in the process and leave you with a bigger mess than without the locks

2) wheel locks.. same story... most likely will trash your wheels in the process of trying to steal them.

3) 2 way alarms are cool.. but i never understood the attitudes of people that are just going to run out there and confront the guy breaking into their car. what if he has a gun or knife? is the car really worth that risk?

you have insurance for a reason... don't worry so much.

WTF? Some of you sound nuts

I've checked out strangers' cars in public garages and lots or apartment complexes I've lived at or am legitimately visiting. Are you going to come out and get me? Your neighbor sounds like a crazy cat lady to sit and stare for 10 minutes. Maybe he was smoking a cigarette.

A half way decent car thief isn't going to care about your alarm. But an alarm is a great way to stop vandals and trespass to your car.

The alarm already comes with power locks and immobilizer....
I got mine bran new in box and i never got an immobilizer bypass module. As for the power locks it may have but for the s2000 you need a separate one if you want it to work with the 5901 remote.

The immobilizer bypass is solely for the remote start option. Door locks controls can be obtained without a relay/module, but unless the installer knows S2000's they won't know how.

Personally, I'd rather have damaged seats/wheels than no seats/wheels. You can still file an insurance claim to get them fixed or replaced but it makes it a lot easier to drive your car to the repair shop when your car has wheels and seats.

Plus there would be satisfaction in knowing that the thief had to walk away empty handed. If I'm going to get victimized, I'd rather the perpetrator have little or nothing to show for it. Seat locks are relatively cheap and really easy to install. It's a mod every S2000 should have, IMO.

Are there any reports of thieves breaking through seat locks? I don't think it would be that easy to do quickly.

There have been countless owners that have discussed their vehicle being broken into and had things stolen, but I don't recall reading about any thief trashing the interior out of frustration. Do you have examples of thieves doing this or are you just assuming?

I have never heard of anyone getting their wheels trashed because they had wheel locks. And there are hundreds of us that have seat locks, I don't recall anyone posting that they didn't work. You're classifying all thieves as sinister, vindictive jerks that enjoy leaving a path of destuction. Personally, I believe there is a large subset of thieves that are opportunists that are looking for some quick cash and don't want to get caught. You might not prevent all thefts with these measures, but the probability of preventing many thefts would significantly improve.

As far as alarms: You can't lump all thieves togther and say they will all act the same way. There will be a percentage of thieves that won't touch a car that they know has an alarm. There is another subset that will run as soon as it goes off. There is another that will run if they can't disable the alarm. And I can tell you that there definitely is a large percentage that will run as soon as they hear someone yell "Hey!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MY CAR? Getting a photo of a robber in action is worth its weight in gold - you don't have to wrestle them to the ground.

Do you really think that ALL thieves carry knives and guns? Do you really think that there are that many idiots out there that want to risk armed robbery? Remember - alarms change the PROBABILITY of a theft, not the possibility of one.
