Default security for the stooks ?

Do you think the stock alarm is good enough ?

Or is it better to buy an aftermarket, something like a Clifford ?

Or even the GPS tracking security device?

However, I did learn that with the tracking device, the security companies are limited in that they cannot track cars in large cargo containers. Like the ones used on freight liners. Or chop shops that use solid lead walls..

Since I have an aftermarket alarm installed in my S2K, I don't think the Honda alarm is good enough. There are too many options that I ahve on my alaram that the Honda one doesn't provide.

The best alarm option I got was the proximity detector. I don;t think this is offered on the Honda alarm.

Most of the cops I've worked with in the past say that the LoJack is as good or better for stolen-car retrieval - they're harder to disable, and aren't as disturbed by things such as garages (I heard a story once where a guy had driven the car into his living room, which is where the cops found it). That being said, I decided against on on my car this time. Why? If it gets stolen, I don't want it back! Since insurance isn't liekly to cover the type of engine damage a joyrider will cause to my car, I'd rather use the insurance $ to buy a new one.

Actually I have wasted so much on alarms over the years. When the car is stolen, it's an inconvenience, but the loss is the insurance companies, not my loss! If a thief really wants your car, poof, it's gone. So I think a simple basic alarm is enough to keep away the novice car thief.

Why spend several hundred or even thousand to protect the capital of a multi-billion dollar insurance company. If the insurance company really gave me a big discount on the insurance, then maybe it's worth it to spend more, but I don't want to spend my money to protect the insurance companies loss.

It's just a car, there are thousands more to replace it if it gets taken, and the insurance company has to buy it !

I second that! Either a Viper (radar field) or Alpine....

Of course the more S2000's that get stolen in your specific area means that your insurance premium goes up. So in the end we, the poor silly consumers, pay for it anyway. It sucks!

Oh.. and don't forget the excess you will have to pay for the pleasure of having your car stolen.

That is highly dependant on your provider/state/city/car, and many other factors... A 35% reduction on the theft portion of your insurance is possible, but it wouldn't make a lick of difference for the $2m liability insurance many people carry. On my last car, I saved $11/mo by having a $600 device in my car. At the time I thought it was worth it, with this car I don't.
