sell mr2t for 04 s2k?
i have owned a 92 mrt for the pass 4 years and it has been thru alot with me. currently, it makes about 270rwhp and does 12.80 1/4 ets. needless to say, i could take most s2k's in a straight line.
but me and my buddies are starting to getting into more road racing, and i dont think my mr2 would hold up as well(maybe with a better driver). i did alot of research on the 2sk and it is suppost to be a great track car and has decent power for the straights.
my questions is, is it gonna be worth is for me to sell my mr2 and start making payments on a new s2k? how happy do you guys think i'll be with it? i have been getting kinda tired of the mr2 even tho i do love it. i know im gonna miss the drag racing abilities i have with the mr2. heres an old pick of my mr2 to let ya know what im thinking about letting go, thanks guys.

Depends on what you want. Your car is 12 years old. You probably wouldn't get much of anything if you tried to sell it. Why not keep it and get a new car?
If all you care about is straight line speed, and you want to get rid of the Mr2, sell it and get an EVO/sti, something wtih a turbo you can tune. A s2000 without FI will probably not satisfy you.

Hey Johnny. Are you on the MR2 boards? I'm MR2 Quik there. May have seen me at a few meets if you go to them. As for the sell the MR2T and get the S......Do what I did. Sell it!!!
You might not have as much of a problem as I did but I had mine for 2 years and it ran for only 3 months. I sold it/parted it out for $18K and put $35K into it (not including the car).
BTW, if you do sell it, I know a few in Canada that would be highly interested. Besides, they do hold their value so you can get a good chunk of change to put down on an S. I sold mine and have never looked back. Love it!!!
BTW, here's my S

and here's my old MR2

BTW, I do remember your car on the MR2 forums. I even voted for you as MR2 of the month!!
You can ask Don (Cyberous) about my S, as I gave him a ride in it. He loved it!!!

your mr2 is so beautiful; i don't understand why you want to sell it. what's wrong with it as a track car? I actually almost bought one myself before my S2000 but couldn't find one in good condition. good luck with your decision.
Yes, the MR2 is a beautiful car, but if you could sell it for $6-8G's or around there, might as well get a nice new car. you know, one with a warrenty and that new car smell
Yes, I love the MR2 and will one day have another, but I would do it over again in a heart beat.

$6k seems fairly optimistic. Maybe if he can find another MR2 enthusiast. I'd say $4k tops, just because I'm sure it has been run hard (& probably taken care of meticulously).
I'd keep it and pick up an S. Used ones are cheap (low $20k range).
And yes, she's a good looking car. TE-37s are one of the best rims out there.

That's one of the nicest looking mister2's I've ever seen. 12.8? Yowza! I love my S2000 like no other car I've owned - but if it's going to be a dedicated track car - I'd probably keep the MR2 and buy a used S2000...
On the track I get a fair amount of pucker factor thinking about how much money I've got going sideways...

Well, just to give you a quik rundown on the history of MR2, they can go for a pretty pennie. I bought mine in 2001 for $7500. Like I said, I sold it for $18K. A modified MR2 can go for $8-15K and for what he has, I wouldnt ask for less then 10K. Check out e-bay and see what they go for.
The MR2 is in the same re-sale value as the RX-7 and Supra ranges. They lose value but as limited as they are, they still are worth alot.

Small world. I just sold my 1992 MR2 Turbo and bought a 2004 S2000 (both red). My MR2 was stock except for 16" wheels and a Han aero kit.
Although I really liked the MR2 (especially the mid-engine handling and the excellent power) I have to say I think the S2000 is clearly an improvement. The steering and shifter feel are much better, the handling is tighter, the grip and control are superb, and the power once hitting VTEC is amazing (although with your 270 HP you might feel differently). The interior is cramped by comparison, but you get used to it. And the convertible is a vast improvement over the MR2's T-tops (more than I had expected). The S2000 is also quite a bit quieter (no engine 18" behind your head). Also, since it's new, I don't have to worry about a 12-year-old car on long trips. I'd recommend getting the S2000.
By the way, I got $4900 for the MR2 (and it took a while to sell it), but it was mostly stock.
