Default Sell or not to sell?

Sell or don’t sell? Love my “S” but I’m getting older and it’s a lot harder getting in and out of it. And a 6 speed manual is not the best for me anymore. Might need to make her a C8. but still won’t be easy getting in and out lol. Your thoughts? Always garage kept, 40k, popular/rare 2005 white with the tan interior. With the used market hot right now, maybe it’s time to let someone else enjoy.

Well brother, I hear you about getting older.. Fortunately for me I'm in good shape for an old retiree and driving the S is still something I can manage and enjoy.
But if things are getting iffy for you then selling might be a good option. It's a sellers market that's for sure. You have a real beauty, with the color combo and low mileage for the year.

I can't really give you an opinion. Maybe others will offer good advice but I'd say give it a good think before you decide.

Good luck!

as your needs change, you need to move on. Having a car that isnt used isnt feasible for me as im not a collector. If i cant enjoy it once or twice a month, ill consider selling it for something i might.

I sold my s2000 8 years ago and recently got another one. It was the right thing to do at the time and as much as i regret it, i know its something i had to do.

Any family members you can pass it on to? Keep it in the family?

It sounds like you've already thought things through and you actually have some good reasons to consider selling. I think that it's pretty likely these cars will continue to rise in value for a couple more decades, but sales trends aren't exactly linear so there's no telling how prices might fluctuate in the near future. Given the unprecedented nature of the situation this country finds itself in, what happens over the course of the next few years is anyone's guess. So unless you are in a position to simply add another car to the mix, it actually makes sense to replace your S with something that you can get enjoyment from regardless of what is happening with the market right now. Especially given that we only get but one life to live.

I feel that given your current situation, you should go with what fits your current lifestyle. I know it will be a hard decision. I agree to try to keep it in the family as the value (particularly yours with low mileage) will go up a lot in the coming years.

I am 81, so probably at the top end of age for S2000 owners. Yes it can be hard to get into sometimes, with the hood up, so usually I put it down before getting in.

I find the effort really is worth while with the real advantage of all round visibility. Like the knees the neck is getting stiff, it doesn't like looking over my shoulder any more. The S2K, with the hood down offers about the best all round visibility using the mirrors. I don't know why, but it is better somehow than my Triumph TR8, so I use it where traffic could be heavy, with lots of merging.

I reckon it will be it's fast responses to inputs will be what finally makes it too much car for me, but I'm not planning that to be any time soon.

The S2000 market is especially strong these days and white/tan goes for a premium price (don't ask me why ). Messages here looking for cars are posted daily. AutoTrader shows high asking prices for ordinary S2000s. BaT auction will also get national attention. If you have the storage space and enjoy driving the car occasionally I'd keep it as your only expense is insurance and occasional maintenance. If not the next owner will enjoy it. Don't worry about keeping it in the family or going to a good home, it's a car, not a puppy.

There will always be things we regret selling but so far no automobiles fit that category for me -- but since I have the storage space I've not considered selling my S2000 despite only driving her a couple thousand miles a year.

I agree. I used to hang onto cars because I didn't want to sell them on. I wanted to try something new yet not let go of the past. When I really looked at the situation and saw how much I was spending on storage fees and keeping track of maintenance for vehicles that didn't get driven much, I sold them and bought my S2000. It was a VERY hard decision, but a friend of mine put it best to me, saying "At some point, you've owned a car long enough." I have been looking around for another performance car (just have the S2000 and a Rav4 daily) but I have decided to hang onto the S2000 to pass on to my son someday. He's 16 now. History is kind of repeating itself...

Definitely a tough decision. I am in year 18 of ownership of mine, 2004 Rio Yellow Pearl with 33.5k miles on it.. I am 52 and would love to share the car with my kids aged 24 and 23 but amazingly they haven't learned to drive stick yet!!! Their loss. In terms of selling I am a firm believer in monetizing assets that don't provide you with any material benefits (potential price appreciation aside). The money from selling an unused asset can be put to better use (ie a car you use more often and enjoy, paying down debt, investing it etc...).
Its a good postion to be in...no wrong decision either way!
