my 2 pennies.... if money is not the issue, just keep it stored. Most of us don't buy an S for its appreciation financially but its appreciation of owning one, stored or driven you are amongst an "elite group" of human beings that operate "outside the box". Most guys store the cars during winter because they can't drive them, whats the difference in your situation, really? Yes i know they are meant to be driven, and that is exactly what you'll do when you can.....timing is the only difference.
I never totally comprehend the garage queen waste of a car mentality.

The problem is if you sell it and want to buy another in less than two years the 'savings' from the depreciation is likely not greater than the sales tax and fees you'll pay on the next on.

If you store it, you don't have to pay a dime. Don't even renew the car, just put it down as storage. When you get back pay the DMV reg fee and get insurance setup (about 15 minutes on the phone).

IF, the car is parked in your parents garage it is likely covered by their home owners policy for fire, but not theft. So check into that.

Personally, I'd consider keeping the car. If life is taking you in another direction sell it. There will always been someone's garage queen to pick up later.

FYI, you can park the car for a solid year without any issues. Just put some fuel products in the tank and put her on blocks.

keep the S!!!!!!!! You will regret it. i had a friend trade his 03 to a nissan 370z. after a month of driving it, he wanted to get his s2000 back. while he said nothing was wrong with the nissan other than being a nissan......he is really heart broken because another man has his hands all over her. when we get back from afghanistan he will be getting a CR if there is one available.

my S has got some good miles on her and what i am going to do personally is somewhat similar to your position....depending on when/if the car either brakes/needs a major repair, i am thinking about taking it off of the insurance and working on it to make it a toy/track car. like i said, if my finances allow me, i will keep this car forever. so if at the time i have no way of getting another vehicle then most likely i would try to just get what i can...but if all your spending is 100/monthly on insurance and no payments, id say its a no brainer to keep....but once again this is completely about where you live and your needs...im in austin so i dont worry about snow..

Sell S2000. Sell Xterra. Buy STi.

Mmmm, any reason behind this response?

I actually just drove it around today since I've been home for the holidays. The car never ceases to impress me, *sigh*, this makes my decision much more difficult.

I live in GA so weather is not really an issue down here, there MIGHT be 1 or 2 days where you can consider it to be "unsafe" to drive the car but for the most part, the worst thing down here would be heavy rains.

However, I find it interesting that most of the people suggesting that I keep it are "newer" members and people like Saki GT and Ckit are telling me to sell both vehicles

Most of the responses regarding not being able to find the same car again is a big concern of mine. I've even made a list of cars that would be possible candidates to replace the car and the only thing I've come up with is a '91 - '95 NSX....which I'm still on the fence about.

My background: I purchased my first S2000 in 2003. Upgraded it rather than selling it. Did whatever I needed to do to keep it. Found ways to make it work. Went through a series of beaters as second cars to preserve the S. Continued to upgrade it. Upgraded it so far that it wasn't a good street car. Bought a second S2000 to keep stock while the other one is for competitive events. Now I've gone another step and the stock one is for track and the modified one is for autocross.

I've been on the site long enough to know that if people are fickle, they're not going to be happy no matter what and will keep jumping from car to car. There are people who have bought S2000s, sold them, bought another one, sold it... only to buy another one.

Basically if you're debating it, you might as well pull the trigger because it's going to happen sooner or later. And you may or may not regret it.

But it's like dating and marriage. You can always keep looking or you can invest in the current relationship.

So my recommendation is: you seem to be looking for something. If you sell the S2000, the Xterra isn't going to cut it. If you don't want to keep two vehicles, then getting a compromise car like an STi is a good bet. If you wanted to keep two vehicles, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Basically if we have to convince you to "stay in the relationship" it's going to end anyway. There's no use drawing it out.

I don't see why you would want to get into a car that older and very similar to the S. I had an (02) AP1 bought it in 04, had it up until this year and sold it. I wish I didn't sell it. I was modded, paid for etc. I'm in a CR now and that was a worthy enough "upgrade" for me to get back into one. Now, I wouldn't get rid of the CR because I know I would end up looking for another one.

Is the Xterra paid off?

Ask yourself this. It's not how you feel about the car, its how it makes you feel.

It's obvious you love the car, but how does the car make you feel if you don't drive it. It seems it makes you feel more worry than joy because it sits too much.

As for finding one later on. Look at the garage queen thread, there are pently of people here that will keep their cars nice for the next owner. If they sell, of course.
