Sell Now Or Sell Later?
Hello Ladies and Gents,
I know only a few handful cars can be considered a good investment and not all Porsches are, as an example.
I have been contemplating, debating, or have been going back and forth of selling my 2004 S2000 with 59K miles on it, clean title with OEM HT. I was planning to save it for my now, teenage son.
Hence, the decent mileage, not the lowest. But ideal for its age.
My Boss Lady Approved that I can get myself a Porsche of my liking, nothing, really, too crazy!
But the condition is, one of our cars has to go.
Are we just simply biased enough to think that the S2000 with over 50K miles will fetch a higher monetary value, give or take in the next 5 years?
Things to consider: I do pay a Full/Comprehensive Insurance Coverage for my S2000. Average/guestimate annually is $780 a year, multiply that by 5 = $3,900, again that is in 5 years.
This, if anything, will justify for me to really consider of selling it, cause the insurance does not appear to equate the appreciation value of the S2000.
Awesome and decent advice will be appreciated!

Not quite as an investment advice. But, more like, the fact that I own one of the sought after vehicles Honda ever built (besides the NSX). That's why I'm torn. True, maintenance should also be considered.
Great point!

I don’t know if an S2000 is a good idea for a teenager. I know many will disagree but knowing what I did before I learned how to drive (not just operate a car) and I’m glad I didn’t have anything that could get me in trouble quicker than I did. I say sell it, invest the proceeds and get him something fun when he’s ready/mature.
I realize that the standard gut reaction is to reply with "don't ever sell your S2000". But honestly, given that you're asking such a question to begin with, I'd say sell the S2000 and find a car that you click with. Or maybe you would end up getting more enjoyment out of owning a number of different cars over the years to come. Maybe think it over for a few months and if it's still something that you're contemplating, then sell your S in the late spring/early summer timeframe when you're likely to get top dollar for it.

The s2000 is not a good 1st car for a teen. It's unsafe, it requires to be wound out to get any power out of it and it's a twitchy RWD vehicle. A teenager (with friend passenger) will only be tempted - and encouraged by youtube - to get into trouble - and not the kind you can easily recover from. I'd highly recommend not having your teen start out with such a vehicle... just my $0.2
