Serious overreving
The other day I was driving my S at the racetrack for the first time. Wow, I have never had this much fun with a car before
. So, I totally melted me tires even though I had said to myself that I would take it easy. Anyway, on my way home from the racetrack is when it happened.
When I was supposed to shift from 4th to 5th gear at about 8500 rpm I accidentally put it into 3rd for a fraction of a second and the engine just screamed at me

Unless you're going well over 90 mph, you shouldn't expect to over-rev when you downshift to third. Some folks have even accidently hit second at this speed without a bad result, while others have seriously damaged their engines. Be careful.
Just keep listening. I don't know how long ago it happened but if it has been a while and you don't hear or feel something you probably did not do any major damage. Just keep an ear up. You never know what could happen down the road.
Those "noises" you are hearing are likely from paranoia...I think your engine is fine and if you only engaged 3rd for a a second you probably didn't over-rev it too far. This engine is made to spin REAL fast and it can take occasional mistakes. Just sit back and relax, it is a Honda, it will keep on running.

yep I've heard many of those stories... people F'in up the engine because there stupid. Most of the 90mph downshifts to second blow your engine out. Its scary haw?

Thanks!

You have to love it when someone calls someone else "stupid", and in that same phrase says, "because THERE stupid". It's "THEY'RE", stupid. Err, I mean "because THEY'RE stupid". Yeah, that's better.
Hope your car is okay. A real bummer.

If the engine didn't blow when you did it, it'll probably be ok. Keep in mind that redline is redline because the factory feels that 9K RPM is safe for CONTINUOUS/EXTENDED driving. That is, it's ok to drive at 9000 RPM for a really long time without a failure. So briefly touching 10000 rpm or something shouldn't be a problem.
I've overrev'd motorcycles several times (by more than 1K rpm) and never, ever had a problem.
