I think 2nd tops out at 62 or 63 mph. I wouldn't want to force the engine into try to keep up with second gear at 90 miles per hour. That is how the valves can become intimate with the cylinder head surface.

If you can't tell any difference, I wouldn't worry. You were lucky this time. If you can hear a difference have a competent mechanic check it. You might as well tell the dealer what happened right off the bat. If you did damage, and you were honest from the beginning you might get a "courtesy out of warranty" repair. Engine damage from missing a shift is not covered by the warranty. Honda will suspect overrevving from a missed shift whether or not you did overrev. Probably they've seen enough bent valves where the owner has lied about what happened to have "damage from missed shift" as their fall-back position.

According to owners with aftermarket computer monitoring equipment the rev limiter engages between 8950 and 8990 rpms.
I'm pretty shure that the limiter comes in at 10000 Rpm, you can go well over 9000 (by about 1K ) before it cuts in.

On the downshift it does not do any good ofcourse, however the car slows down quit rqpidly when releasing the clutch in this case, so in most cases you are OK.

You felt that there was something wrong immediately after you had over-reved it, right? It's been more than a week since my missed shift and there seems to be nothing wrong with my engine. I'm I a lucky bastard or what ?
XVIPER has said that even though you don't notice any difference after your over-rev, problems may manifest in the future.

I believe there was a post of someone who over-reved and didn't notice any differnece, but in the future the problem manifested and he was in deep shit.

So...you are lucky for the meantime.

Don't assume you're ok. I have an S2000 at my shop now with bent valves. The guy before him had no symptoms whatsoever, but upon doing a routine valve adjustment I found 9 cracked valve retainers. This is from an overrev under 10600.

Is it possible to not notice symptoms of an overrev, WHILE there is damage to the valves? and continue to drive without noticing anything such as power loss, noise, etc?

Correct. He had no symptoms, no noise, no loss of power, nothing. He was in for routine valve adjustment when we found the broken retainers. I'm 100% certian his engine would have failed at Fall Colors, if he even made it there.
