Default Seriously... how many miles are we good for?

So, here is the situation...

I have a 2005 with 50,000 miles. A lot of those were put on over the course of the first year, when I was driving 100+ miles a day to see my girlfriend. However, I still drive nearly 20k a year under normal conditions.

The car is going to be paid off by the end of this year. Should I plan on saving some money for something worthwhile (ie housing) or should I just plan on buying a daily driver to keep the S in good shape? If I can expect 150k out of her, I'm just going to keep on trucking... if I'm going to have to start babying it after 100k, I'm going to start shopping for civics...

I do plan on keeping this car forever and turning her into a garage queen sooner or later. The real issue is whether I should do it soon, at low mileage, or if I should wait until she's seen a couple more years of daily use.

Thoughts?

I've just been on the NSX Prime website (For the Honda/Acura NSX) and the post I read was saying something like way over 200,000 miles on some of their cars with photo evidence.

I have no reason to think the S2000 won't be any different.

Keep driving the S as a daily driver, do the scheduled maintenance, and don't worry about getting a beater (you'll hate driving it anyway). My S is a daily driver and I have no interest in ever selling the car (bought it cuz its one of my two dreams cars - NSX and S2000).

Invest in property.

Oh Oh Oh...forgot to add...

My mates father has driven a vintage 911 (1970 I believe) since he was using it as a daily driver and the car is something like over 350,000 km's and purring like a kitten. Yes, its not a Honda but all the more reason to suggest the S will last at least the same if not more with proper maintenance.

Mileage is only one piece of the puzzle. If a car is well taken care of, there's no reason one as well engineered as a Honda can't last several hundred thousand miles. Interstate driving (where most high mileage cars rack up their numbers) is very easy on a car's internals. Personally, I'd rather have a car that was used frequently and driven like that; than one that someone keeps in a garage most of the time but beats the hell out of once a month. Plus, our cars aren't good investments anyway; use it, enjoy it. Get your money's worth out of it

50,000 miles in almost 2 years, wow - a couple more years of daily use and you'll have 100,000 miles on her. If you want to keep the car long term, I'd pay it off and move on to something else to take all those miles - 100,000 miles wears on a lot of parts and you are well ahead of the miles per year average already.

I'm sure the S will last very well with high miles, but I think you'll be better off with some kind of car that takes cheaper fuel and tires and that you don't want to keep around forever. I say pay off the S and buy something less expensive for the daily commute.

You mentioned Civics, and if I were you, I'd pay off the S and look for a three year old Civic to start driving daily. It will have depreciated a good bit already and those excessive miles won't hurt you as much when you go to sell it, plus it takes cheaper fuel and you can rotate the tires.

drive it and invest. then later if you feel you need to get another beater car, you will be a little better off as far as everything goes IMO
