I'd imagine it doesn't unsettle the car as much when you get on/off the throttle when entering/exiting the corners.
If you do that correctly, it doesn't unsettle the car at all.

in addition you should never rest your hand on the shift knob. only when shifting. you'll wear out parts by not allowing the motion of the ocean
WTH!!! I didn't know that!!! Crap ;p

This statement is wrong and right at the same time.

You aren't going to "wear out parts" by resting your hand on the shifter. I suppose there might be a tiny bit more wear on the bushings, but it's not likely to make any difference.

But resting your hand on the shifter is a stupid and dangerous habit. Your hands should be on the wheel, not on the shifter. Unless you are actually shifting at that moment, of course.

well there is wear going on. when you rest your hand on the shifter, you are loading a transmission component (called a slider) against components, either the blocking ring or the gear stop. This will cause accelerated wear on the softer-metalled blocking ring, which will soon lend itself to popping out of gear. It can also cause an overheated gear from the additional loading. This will not show itself until fatigue breaks it.

Well, I won't fight you over it. Especially since either way, the result is the same. Drivers should not keep their hand on the shifter. Or anywhere other than 9-3 on the wheel, really. No matter how cuddly the passenger is....

Pete, where can one get those, and how hard are they to install?
What about stiffer (urethane) tranny mounts? Does anyone make those?
The engine damper is made by J's racing and is available from retailers who carry their products. The installation is not complicated and takes about an hour.

Spoon makes competition engine and tranny mounts:

How do you look smooth while shifting if you can't keep your hand on the knob? ;p

Just curious ;p
