Default Shifter Grease?

Just picked up an Axialflow short shifter.

1. What kind of grease do I need to use?
2. Any specific brand that anyone is using?
3. And, where did you buy it?
4. Is the shifter supposed to come with a white, circular piece that goes under the boot? I recall seeing a picture of one in another thread, but I didn't get that piece with my shifter.

Thanks!

1)I used high temperture syn. grease, valvoline brand
2)ar..valvoline synpower, i am sure there's a honda version of the samething
3)vatozone
4)yes, it just snaps right off, get two needle nose plyer and pull. I tried to twist and turn it for a while and no cigar.

make sure you use a high temperture grease, those cheaper grease will dry and caked up. and make sure you check the little plastic cap on the very end of the shifter stick.

Honda say's to use "SUPER HI" temp Urea Grease on the shift lever (shift fork also. Honda part# 08798-9002. It's a synthetic green goo. It's the same grease Honda say's to use to cure the sticky clutch pedal problem. To my knowledge no one on the forums has tried to correct the sticky clutch problem using the "SUPER HI" temp urea grease. Many have greased the clutch fork only to have the stcky pedal return. I got some of Honda's magic urea grease and am going to apply it to the shift fork as well as the shift lever. Incidently the Helms say's to hit the shift lever with the magic grease annually. I still have not, and am anxious to see if there is a big difference in feel.

Thanks for the input. I got impatient waiting for replies and just picked up some high temp Valvoline grease at the local auto shop.

I started the install and now am running into other issues!

I removed the old shifter and put in the new one with the spring. I placed the retaining ring on top and bolted it down with the 3 allen bolts supplied.

New Issues
1. The shifter no longer pushes down for reverse. It's as if the retaining collar is hold it down too low. Was there supposed to be some type of spacer? Ideas for the fix?

UPDATE: After searching the forums, I found that others had a problem with it not popping back up. I attached the shift knob and pulled up...it came up with a decent amount of effort. I can now push it down and PULL it back up. The fix appears to be dremeling the ball?? I guess I need to fix problem #2 to try this out.

2. I attempted to remove it to check the install. But, one of the allen heads is stripped! Any ideas for this one? Why didn't they include other types of bolt...maybe ones using a 10mm head to match the factory ones?!?!

Thanks again for any advice.

Actually, I was not referring to the factory ring holding the rubber boot down. There appears to be a small white, plastic piece. It looks like it just holds the top of the boot down. Any ideas why I didn't receive it?
