shifter shake
Just got my '01 silver S2K yesterday - really neat car. I would probably be more excited, but I used to have an '00 M Roadster until it got killed by a guardrail. I am constantly comparing the s2k to the M, but I suspect after I VTEC it the first time, all that will be out the window.
Anyway, I have noticed that at highway speeds (50mph or higher) the shifter dances around quite a bit. Is this normal? On the bimmer, the shifter was steady as a rock at any speed, over any surface. This movement doesn't particularly bother me, I just want to make sure it's not something out of the ordinary.
I must say, the shifter and transmission are to die for - puts the bimmer shifter to shame.

Just guess, but it's probably because the shifter is directly attached to the transmission and not via a cable-link. Thus, it is susceptible(sp) to all the moving and shaking the engine/tranny dish out.

it's that torque that I'm missing right now. gonna have to learn to keep the revs up and downshift when required. the shift is so nice, though, i don't mind shifting a lot at all. that's partly why I want the SC - bring torque curve up some and gimme a little more. SC also keeps me even with new M's
also, for the dancing shifter, I didn't even notice until my son pointed it out to me while we were driving somewhere.

You get nothing for free. The price of having the best gearbox in the world is that it's very precise. That precision makes it great but also makes it shake
There is no vibration dampening. It's a direct connect with no soft bushings to make it sloppy, mushy or steady. Noise and vibration is the price we pay for the mechanical precision. The only thing that would give the precision without the vibration would be electronic but that would take all the fun out of it.
