Thanks all for the replies!

Sounds like I need to get me some of this GM trans fluid.

never thought i'd be putting something in my S with "GM" in the name, but i'm willing to try!

thanks again.
I didn't either. However, I wouldn't be the first to say I freaking LOVE the stuff. GM did an excellent job in their research and production of this fluid, it's worked wonders in my S. The only notchy shift is 1-2 during cold starts and this stuff really helps. It actually eliminated my problem for the first 2-3k miles, but came back. Still no where near the horrible feeling using anything else though.....

so I always hear about how smooth the shift is on our s2000s. I picked up a used '02 about a month ago, and my experience hasn't been that the shifting is totally smooth.
If by "smooth" you mean "sloppy", no it isn't.

You will never get buttery smooth shift, from an "S" tranny.
Whatever fluid you use, the mechanical feel, race car like, will always be there!
i get it too! but i kinda like it

Maybe in yours, but the GMSMFM tranny oil I got in mine works better than anything yet. what do you have in yours?
MT-90 Red Line, and I change it,every second engine oil change, works fine ,better than GM.
GM is ok for the first 2000 miles.
But you'll never get rid of the mechanical feel(rifle bolt action)on MY 99-02;it's built like that !

The shifter on my 05 is crisp and predictable. I have no complaints.

to reiterate, anyone who have a butter smooth shifter is lying. it clicks with a notchy feel in every gear unlike any other normal stick car. if ur grinding, then that's a problem. but between 1-2 it is very difficult to shift smoothly and engage. i've found that it will only be smooth if the rev is at 2.5k or redlining.
