When shifting still to 2nd gear I wait for the approximate rpm to drop then gas, i have been doin this and the results are very smooth but again its like im goin too slow cuz im waiting a second for it to drop then hitting the gas and i feel like i should gas rite after i shift to keep up with the speed.
HOW TO BE SMOOTH:

!. Don't wait.

2. Don't let the revs drop.

Don't' even lift off the throttle.

Even better- blip the throttle to INCREASE the RPMs.

PS- You need to practice heel and toe technique, left foot braking, and double-clutching, (all the time), if you really want to master shifting technique.

If you got the 2-stage clutch engage OK (no rev mismatch and therefore no clutch slippage required), then 1-stage clutch release should be the same. Did you really get the revs to match on 2-stage clutch engage without the need to slip the clutch?

As this topic has been beaten to death so many times, there still seems to be many schools of thought here. Some say dont gas until you're off the clutch completely and some still keep a little gas while slowly letting out the clutch? so which one is the "correct" way to do it. I see a lot of posts saying to do this while learning but the correct way is to do something else. Wouldnt you want to do something the correct way to begin with?

I am still a newbie with driving stick and find it very hard to be consistent with upshifts. For some reason, my downshifting is getting a lot smoother than my upshifts.

I just wanted to get a general consensus on this...so for the most part, do you guys let off the gas a little when shifting, then release the clutch slowly , then gas more after you're completely off? I hear people telling me they simultaneously gas more and more while letting the clutch out. All these schools of thought are rather confusing.

Anymore help is gladly appreciated. Yes RaceMiata...that video might help a lot of us

I never use the clutch, it's just not needed with this car! Those synchros work like a charm! I just jamb the stick into the gear I want. Sure sometimes I have to slam it by giving it a full force elbow, but hey nothings perfect.

wow... more than a year old...

you can do both... but not pressing the gas till you're off the clutch completely? that's gonna be a long drive trying to do that to every shift you're going to make... that's sloow...
