Shiny spot above where top latches
I know I've heard this talked about on s2ki before, but I can't find the thread, even when utilizing google to search the site.
I've noticed minor shiny spots on the top above where the latches are (when the top is up). I'm assuming this is because caused by the latches rubbing against the top when its is put down? Does anyone have a link to a possible fix? I've heard other s2ki members mention something similiar before, but don't recall a solution, if any.

I just put a patch in any areas that are wearing so that the wearing happens on the patch instead of on my top. I'm sure someone will chime in who has had this wear spot happen to them.

What do you use for the patch? Specifically what kind of material and what do you hold it down with? I'm concerned with adding additional thickness when its already tight clearance.
Thanks!
Thanks!

What I'm talking about is right above the latches themselves, the things you open or close when raising or lowering the top. I don't see any wear holes in that part of the top.

Just cut out a patch. I used black sunbrella, That's a poly fabric that doesn't fade and etc. We use it on our boats a lot. Anyway then just use a good vinyl or fabric glue.
Be sure and clean the area first with a little alcohol

This is a documented problem (couldn't find a thread with pics, sorry):

and the cause may be in a place you would not think to look. You have an 04 so your elastic top straps may be wearing out. When the bar above your head does not fold back like it should, it causes the top to get stretched against the latches. Eventually they will rip the top. Fortunately, there is a fix.

If you look at the second picture down, right side, you will see what I mean and how it can be fixed. If you don't want to mess with it, just get in the habit of helping the bar back with your hand as you open the top.
Even if everything is working properly the latches may still cause some wear so taking the recommendation to reinforce the area with a patch may be a good idea.

That very well may be my problem. One of my straps has a small rip in it and occasionally the top will not go down all the way like it should. When that happens I usually have it go all the way back up, and then try again.
I'm ordering these right now. Hopefully those minor shiny spots do not become more of an issue!
Thanks!

Replacing those will let your top drop all the way, it won't help the wear marks under the latches.... You'll need to put a patch there for the latch to rest on or it will continue to wear through.
