Shipping Advise, Please?
Ship it, open carrier, it will probably be cheaper than driving it with hotel and everything else, saves wear and tear on you and the car and avoids the possibility of a mechanical breakdown on the road. If you had like 2 weeks with someone to do a drive on 2 lane highways and see America, maybe, but alone on interstates, mainly looking to get home, not such a big deal IMHO and no offense to S2000's, but like a lot of sports cars they have a stiff suspension and are noisy, fun for a moderate length drive, but it gets old after about 5 hours and it's not like you are using all that performance and handling on the interstate.
I've shipped a few RX 7's, pretty much without a problem, most everyone on line is just a broker, they put it on a board, when a trucker has space on their carrier, they bid on it, what you get for more money is faster pickup. As long as you aren't in a hurry, find the cheapest broker and have them ship it. Enclosed carrier might be nice, but it's a lot of extra cost.

OP: Get in touch with Kyras on this forum. She just had her latest S2000 shipped from that area to south OC. Results were good, no damage, no complaints. I believe she said their fee was competitive. Kind of important that it's a reputable firm. Yes, all transporters will be responsible for damages, but you don't really want any damage in the first place.

Just had my CR shipped from a dealership in NC to SoCal. Dealer offered me two options, $1300 in an open transporter or $1700 in an enclosed transporter. I went with the enclosed transporter and it was a 7 day turn around. ( They pick up and drop off cars along the way obviously). Since the CR is a limited car I paid a few extra hundred for the security of knowing it would be in an enclosed trailer and not exposed. Totally worth it in my opinion. Good luck and congrats on the buy.
I drove down to ATL and spent the weekend, drove 6 hours home to greensboro. like everyone says, that drive does not get old!
I knew how picky it was to find one of these cars in prestine condition (hence me driving 3 states for one) .. the 2 I thought were clean and perfect turned out to have little flaws that held me up from buying it. It was a a small private dealer that had little information about the car that had the perfect S.
my advice is go drive the car yourself. things that look perfect, might not be so good in person.

I purchased my 09 in Phoenix and I live in Sacramento. Looked at couple of shippers including two the dealer recommended. It was about $800. I found from reviews and recommendations from the PHX area dealers some companies are better than others. Do your homework, if you do ship, don't be afraid to pay more than the low bidder. Pay more if the quality is there. Good shippers are worth every penny. They don't damage cars (better companies ship more high end cars than bottom feeder outfits) keep you informed and offer door to door service.
However, as many suggested, you can drive it. I did the two day drive instead of shipping and had a great time. Through the desert, over the Sonora Pass in May. One of the best drives. If you can get the time off, then I am in the camp of "DRIVE IT" ! This is what driving is all about. What a car to drive in. Its pretty reliable and a cross country trip is a nice introduction to the car. I have driven cross country over a dozen times (most were Coronado to mid Florida) and a bunch from Coronado to the mid west. (Not with the S- other cars) Loved every one of them. Planning more explorations of the West with the S now that I have that.
Have fun.

Drive it yourself. The shipping industry is a nightmare unless you're willing to spend the money for a good shipping company with their own trucks. Ask if they're a broker, if so they have no responsibility if your car is damaged.

I vote for drive it back, i've done a couple long distance drives [7 and 12 hours] in my S and they were great, plan to break it in to a few days and i'm sure it'll be a good get to know the car type of experience as it was for me.
