Shipping help needed
Hi all - I am looking to ship my S2000 from RI to FL in about a month or so. It seems that the industry is super fragmented and I'm not exactly sure what direction to go in. I filled out one request on a company website and I received hundreds of calls, texts, and emails from all different places - it was absolutely absurd. I want a fair price but also want to know I'm dealing with a company with a good reputation. Does anyone have company recommendations and/or tips? Also, I may send a 2nd car...should I expect a discount for shipping 2?
What you're seeing is normal. I put my request in, looked at bids from different brokers...and called the one I thought was good.
They basically find a trucker in the area who has an open spot on his truck, and is willing to pick up your car(s) and drop them off along his route. Think of it like Uber or Priceline.
If you're looking to reach a shipping company directly, hopefully someone can help you out. This will be the more pricey route, however, as you'll be using a private courier.

Isn't Montway is a broker not a "shipping company?" I think I used them 5 years for a move from Cleveland to Richmond.
As @B serious notes with a brokered move YOU can specify the times and dates of shipping. Large semi-trailer car haulers operate on their schedules for the most part. My move was inside a hot shot closed single-car trailer picked up at my convenience and likewise dropped off. I drove the car on and off the trailer. Roughly $1/mile -- when fuel was $2/gallon. The truck and trailer then went down to North Carolina and loaded custom furniture for a return to Ohio. My move was a convenience for him to not dead-head down here. Win-win.
Not sure where you're really going/ Rhode Island ain't that big but from Providence to (say) Key West is 1600 miles, to Mayport is 1100, to Tampa 1300, and to Pensacola 1400 -- some big mileage differences which will influence prices and availability -- not sure who would want to take your car to Key West.
The AutoTrain from DC to Orlando is an option for getting you and the car down there.
