Barry

A short replacement on a MY2001 in the UK. A year old car owned for two weeks (600m) succumbs to the piston slap on #4. The problem surfaced on slowing down from a top speed run.

Mileage 4,700 with the oil at max even after the seizure. Engine no. 1010520.

Dealer made various oil related accusations before checking with Honda and realising the manufacturing fault. Honda UK obviously had blocks in stock as it was all replaced inside a week. UK warranty is three years so no problems.

Your 'short blocks anonymous' helped with the initial stress and was instrumental in pinpointing the issue for the dealer.

Many thanks

Damn it guys... when I came home today, I noticed a slight tapping at idle. Now I am worried about that #4 piston failure..

22k on the clock so far..

Hi, I am new to the list. I have had a red s2000 since Oct 1999. It is a great car, I've owned hondas for 20yrs.

Yesterday the engine light started blinking and got a bad noise and luckily I was within 3 minutes of a dealer and took it there. They said my sparkplug had backed out and that the coil was burned out and some of it had dropped into the cylinder. They also said that at least one other sparkplug was loose. The car is just out of warrenty. Their initial estimate is $4500 and they say it could be $8000. Basically replace the short block.

I am trying to figure out what to do, this seems like a problem that has occured to others, advice would be appreciated.

Mark

My mileage is 36,500. Very disturbing that it is out of warrenty by 500 miles. Does anyone know who to contact in Honda USA regarding warrenty problems such as this? Thanks, Mark

Mark,

Maybe you should send a PM or email Barry WY. He seems to be on top of all this activity. Doesn't American Honda Motors have a phone number or email (take a look on honda.com)?

It looks like I went from April to September without updating this thread. I'm working on it now.
Please note the pic I found in my files of Jason Saini's yellow with its December, 2000 #4 cylinder failure. Jason was the first to call it to our attention. I hope its okay with him that I've reposted his pic.

Please do private mail me about any blown engine/short block replacements. I haven't been sure about what to do with engine replacements caused by loose plugs. I guess it would be a good idea to document these too so I'll expand the top post for that purpose. I hope to get it done today.
