Should I change the oil?

Nearly all the oxidation is caused by the reaction of heat and oxygen - very little occurs just sitting there.

Acidifcation occurs when chemically active compounds in the fuel and oil (sulfurs and phosphorous) react to form weak acids - if left in the crankcase and upper cylinder areas they can cause corrosion.

Here's some info from one of my texts:
"Oxidation
All engines, transmissions and drive-axle component oils oxidize. A chemical reaction between oil molecules and oxygen takes place at high operating temperatures. This reaction increases viscosity, causes formation of insoluable engine deposits and corrosive acids which futher increases component wear.

Higher operating temperatures, fuel consumption, rapid additive depletion and substantial loss of power can also be expected when oil oxidation takes place. When severe, oxidation makes the oil very hard to pump causing lubrication starvation to moving parts, with inevitable results. Oils that are oxidized have a very pungent, sour odour."

Regarding the synthetic 7500 mile "warning". Not 10,000.

Does that warning also appear in the 2003 Manual?

I had 3 Acura TL's, the last a TL-S, and I weaned them on synoil after 1000 miles, with absolutely no oil consumption issues.

I would think that for the 2004, with its "dummy head" line boring improvements, would be less susceptible to any break-in concerns.

Theoretically, but the sleeves are STILL ceramic.

Aahh, but you missed the point: As stated in my first post: You MUST ensure that the rings are fully seated/broken in before going with synthetic...if not, they never will after switching.

As for the ester-based synthetic for jet turbines, the founder/CEO of Amsoil is a retired fighter pilot...I'm fairly certain he's got it right.

As I also stated, it doesn't have to be Amsoil brand, any brand of pure 100% synthetic will do the trick.

As for the when and if on the S2k, here's a partial list of the "sports cars" I've owned in the past...believe me, I will own an S2k:

MG Midget
MGB
Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII
Triumph GT6+
Mazda RX3 (not a true sports car, but what a blast)
240Z
Toyota MR2

These show my age, but I'm looking forward to my 2nd childhood.
