BELIEVE ME!!

I DROVE STICK 2 TIMES IN MY LIFE BEFORE I BOUGHT MY S2K.

AS LONG AS YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO CAN TEACH YOU THE BASICS YOU WILL BE FINE!!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR INPUT!

I do have a friend who can teach me, but he doesn't drive a stick now.

I think it's best for me to practice on another car first as you guys have suggested.

Once again, thanks!

I learned on the 1964 jeep on off road driving . The s2000 was my first stick I own. it is very easy to learn. The s2000 and RSX is a very different car. The shift throws on the s2000 is much shorter then the rsx. You should practice first then test drive both.

But...it is not a car I would recommend for learning how to drive a stick shift.
I disagree. The clutch and light flywheel is not as forgiving as a Civic's, but the precise shifting feel makes learning on this car doable and in no way should it be a negating factor in your S2000 purchase decision.

Good luck.

Spidey,
Have you considered renting an S2K? I see you're in SoCal, there's a place in Costa Mesa that has an S2K they rent, http://www.champion-autorental.com/. They were suggested to me by Henry (ReecesPieces) but I have not tried them out yet. They quoted me $125/day.

I owned six cars with manual transmissons

77 Camaro 350 4spd
89 Escort GT
91 Cavalier Z24
85 Corvette 4+3
98 Cavalier Z24
01 S2000

and by far the S2000 is the easiest to operate and the easiest to heel-toe. You biggest problem will not be changing gears, it will be adapting to the S2000 handling. This is not a car for the first time sports car buyer / only drive FWD types. It is quite sensitive to trailing throttle oversteer and it is even more treacherous in the rain.

One only has to read the raft of stories of guys bending their S2000 to get a sense of the nature of this car. Most of these situations arise due to : Lifting in a corner or rain. Most of the people involved were first time sports car owners.

You have been warned.

Well I right now I have both the Z24 and the S2000. The chevy has been great,
65K miles in two 1/2 years and NO repairs. Nothing. It nice to have a car
I don't care too much about.
commuting in the DC area is quite harsh and I'd hate to
submit my S2000 to the travails of daily driving.

The S2000 is awesome, you have to get one, you don't know what you're missing.
