Default Should I have bought the S?

Just wondering what your opinions are, I have bought a 1999 s2000, 40,000 miles on the clock.. The amount I have spent on the car from 0-finish would tally up to about £25k... Would you have just bought a £25K car to start with and save all the trouble?

Personally no, Iove my car, and think it has been far more rewarding than an off the shelf German job.

.... I have been called crazy multiple times! And often get comments from friends saying 'could had a 40,000 M5' or a S4 etc etc...

Thoughts?

This will be an easy decision, and test, for you; The S is not for everyone: You either love having very little low RPM torque and revving the F to the limit or you don't. You either love the instant, almost nervous and twitchy handling responses, or you don't. You either love the classic looks that trump most other sports cars of any price (IMO), or you don't. Not to mention the fact that with proper care it will last literally forever. I own one of the German "shelf-specials", and I wouldn't trade my S for 3 of them. Even though the German has more torque, horsepower, and features, and will elicit more nods of approval than smirks of disapproval from old people. I love my S, and to me and 99% of this board, it stands head and shoulders above all others for the "pure" sake of driving and enjoying doing so.

And most importantly, you either love the shrill scream of the S at 9K or you don't. So, should you have bought the S?

I don't regret it at all, I'm in love with the car, although it still throws up problems but, that's the beauty of modified cars.. No matter how much you throw at it, will never be 100% finished. I love my S to bits, I also own an Audi S3.. Doent give me any buzz at all driving it in comparison the Audi is a boat!! I was just interested to see if I was in a similar position as to you guys where friends/family think you are mad! I Agree fully the pure feel of the S is unbeatable! Would everyone agree?

you can expect yrs of basic maintenance costs w the s2k.

A cheap M3 or Audi can be expected to require expensive repairs etc

Not really directly comparable cars, but you really couldn't run an old M3 for nearly the same cost
