How long will Honda continue to manufacture parts? I heard something of a supply and demand law that has every car that stops being produced must continue to make parts for atleast 10 years after? Is this true?

Actually the bump was only 0.16L (1997cc to 2157cc)

I believe that is true, to a certain extent. There's no one to enforce this industry rule. Who is going to audit Honda's inventory of parts around the world just to enforce this rule? Nobody!!!

On the bright side, even if such rule does not exist, the market for parts would propel automakers to continue to produce parts for cars that are no longer in production. If there is a demand for parts for a certain car, then there is going to a supply of parts for this car. Why? Because producing and selling parts that are in demand is a source of profit-generating operation for automakers.

Even if automakers find it unprofitable to produce parts for discontinued vehicles, the aftermarket would jump into market to have a slice of the profit.

So really, there's nothing to worry about parts running out.

Hope this helps!!!

10 years past the date of the last production is my understanding. Expect parts to be avialable for 15 year and then around 20 years hard to come by. If the car keeps the following (110K world wide); aftermarket should be available.

Of course, junk yard parts for most of that.

have you seen the price of S2000 factory parts ?, Honda makes a killer profit margin on those parts, they have an incentive to keep pumping them out, thus I believe they will be around much longer than the 10 year minimum.

Domestic auto makers have been supplying parts for many old vehicles way beyond the 10 year period, they make money off parts, it's an easy decision for them. In the rare occurence that it doesn't go on the aftermarket suppliers jump in.

If I can get just about everything I need for a 46 year old car built by a company gone for decades, I don't think I'll worry about any Honda.

No, the supply won't be even, there might be a few things hard to come by (I can imagine engine electronics, etc., that are S2000-specific) if the aftermarket determines the market fior that part might not be worth tooling up for.

I do have a friend who is buying up dealer inventories of parts for 80's Civics, etc., as dealers decide it's not worth keeping it around, and selling on-line. I can see someone doing this with S2K parts some day.

I'm not worried. I had a 1992 MR2-Turbo up until 2006 and it was still easy to find parts, even OEM fog lamps 11 years after the car was discontinued and it's safe to say there are far more S2000's than 2nd Gen MR2's on the road.

Depreciating car value + expensive parts = no need for parts, since damaged S2000s will just be totalled out. Thus, when you need parts, you will no longer need parts.
