Single vs. Dual Exhaust...which do you like better?
Try to settle something here and would like to ask you a question.
Ill give you 2 senerio's here.
#1 You want an exhaust. However the only ones that make power for the S2000 is a single outlet exhaust. All duals keep stock power levels or close to. Same price, same noise levels and sound type for both single and dual. Which system would you buy?
#2 Again you are buying an exhaust for your S2000. Lets say there are right now only 2 available. One is a single and one is a dual. Their performance gains are mirrored, nothing more, nothing less, same price. And again same noise levels and sound type. Canisters are the same design, but one has 2, one only has 1, which do you buy?

And if you wonder why I ask...
Mugen, HKS and 5-Zigen are the only reputable companies that make dual exhausts. (And soon GReddy) All 3 do very little for power gains if anything, but some do free up some weight, which yes helps performance.
Spoon, 5-Zigen, RSR, Amuse and Jay's, again reputable companies make singles. There exhausts make more power than a dual and because they are even lighter, help performance more. So mark 2 points for singles to duals 0 as far as performance goes.
My question is, why do companies like Mugen, HKS and Greddy make only duals, when singles seem to be the better way to go. Is it marketing before perfomance for these manufactures?
Im just curious if duals are more popular even if it hinders performance compared to singles.

C3 I believe most people will be agreeing with you. I wonder if someone made lower valances to cover up the one hole, if that would make a difference? The only problem with that is, their are single systems that exit from the right, and some from the left, so its a bit more expensive to do.

straight through passage for the exhaust gas(less bending needed) therefore more top end power. The mugen and comptech, etc made dual exhaust because of the stock look and noise levels from the exhaust is easily maintained with a twin system.
You can made a piece of plastic to cover the semi-circle hole that left behind your single exhaust. Just glue it on and paint it black.
A US company called Borla made some great exhaust for race and street car. They also had a stainless twin system for our S-2000.
I am now having a single stainless steel exhaust system from a Japanese tuning shop called J's racing. It is the loudess exhaust that I ever had.(like a F-1 in 9000rpm) but they had dyno that with a 15hp gain. It really feels like that way but you really had to bear with the bass noise from that.
single or twin is personal preference.
Single for power, twin for looks!
The best way to make your car go faster is to get in shape and lose the some weight! And it is good for you anyway.
If you want to save weight go with the single. Dual looks much better.
I don't believe you can get 15HP from just an exhaust. Maybe if it is short straight pipes with no cat and muffler, then maybe.

Quite a while ago, back on ha.net, somebody posted a pic of the single-tip Amuse exhaust. I was quite surprised at how good it looked. I wouldn't have any problem going with a single exhaust if it had reasonable performance and weight advantages.

I take stupid looking, perfomance gain and weight loss all day every day, over pretty... remember, its not a woman...its a car
