Default Slow Fuel Gage.....

Has anyone experienced a problem with their fuel gage? Last night I filled up a full tank of gas, and the fuel gage was stuck on half...then it creeped up slowly...took like half an hour, after bar after bar...for it to go up to full.

Hope this isn't a sign of more trouble to come...sigh..

That's very strange, what model year is your car? My '01 shows a full tank instantaneously, whenever I fill up there's no delay in the fuel gage display. Contrasted with my Integra, which takes its sweet time to move the needle up to the "full" mark after I fill it.

Mine did it once too. I thought it was because I didn't shut off the car while filling up. It was also rainy and warm out, maybe weather had something to do with it . It hasn't done it again.

Did you leave the ignition ON when you filled up?

The fuel gauge is purposely designed to react very slowly to fuel level changes in order to eliminate false readings from fuel slosh and uphill/downhill conditions. So if the ignition is left ON while re-fueling it will take quite a while to show FULL.

But it will take an "instant" reading if you cycle the ignition OFF and ON, which would normally happen during a fill-up.

I"ve experimented with using the fuel gauge for other things (more precise temp gauge/boost gauge/nitrous gauge etc), but it's just so darned slow it's useless for anything else.

It happened to me once, also. The ignition was off while I refueled. Never had a problem since.

The same has happened to me once. Filled up my MY03 and was two bars short. Engine was off. After 10 minutes or so of driving, one bar came on but the other never did. Hasn't happened since.

The gas station I went to that night wasn't my "usual" one and it sits at quite slope--wonder if that contributed to whatever the problem was?

2 fill ups ago (have had my 03 since 5/15/03) experienced same thing. May have had the ignition on for a time to take reading on trip odometer-it was humid out. Took about 10 minutes of driving to read full. I, too was worried-its was the first fill up! Hasn't happened since. Haven't thought about it until reading this forum.
