Default SMOG Legality w/...

So I was wondering.. is the AEM EMS tune OBD II (or whatever) compatible? if not..is it possible to retune the chip back to stock when you need to SMOG your S2K? Also, test pipes..obviously removing the catalytic converter is a federal offense, but what are the chances that a cop will pull you over and notice you wont have cats? Also, if you just have a test pipe, when smog time comes, can you just swap back in your cats and be all good to go?

Thanks guys.

if you have a good tune it will still pass smog... in colorado even if you don't get communication via OBDII port you can still pass... some states might not be the same.

Yes, in California is what I'm asking for. So there's no way to convert back to OBD II? and Test pipe you can just swap out, no?

why not just put the cat and stock ECU back in when you need it?

I don't know how AEM EMS tunes work. So you take out the SCU and put in the tuned chip? I did not know that. Is that how it works?

The ems will not pass no matter what. In cali they plug in their port into the ecu plug and ems won't read at all. you will have to put everything back to stock to pass and or do it illegally.

ps the search function is your friend

What do you mean by the EMS won't read at all? Can you program it back to stock or not? That's my question.

and PS.. the search function on this forum sucks. Or I'm clicking the wrong "serach" function right next to "My S2K". I don't see any other search function. I think admin needs to refin ethe search function. There are so many topics with the same questions. Just my .02 cents.

back on topic. So.. Can you reprogram the AEM EMS to Stock then after smog reprogram it back to AEM EMS? Yes or No.

EMS completely replaces the stock ECU. As in, you take the stock OBD2 compliant ECU out that talks to their computers through that port and plug in a new computer that doesn't talk OBD2 at all. So when they plug in they're not going to get anything.

You'd need to unplug the EMS, plug the stock ECU back in (luckily the EMS is plug and play) and put your stock cat back in before you go to have it smogged. Yes it's a PITA, but we're in cali, so life sucks.
