I was at a redlight when this older gentleman pulled up in a shelby replica. He started to Rev and it was Freakn louder than anything. I was like okay IM Down! The light went green and i launched at like 3k. First gear until 8gs then grabbed 2nd. The Shelby was right next to me through 2nd gear. I grabbed 3rd and i jumped a half a car length imediately and never looked back! I guess he only had a 4 speed in that car. I spoke to him at the following light as he complimented my car. He told me he had a built 350 in his car. I guess it wasnt enough to hang with a s2000

I could be wrong, but I think maybe he was toying with you. (Or maybe he was a really bad driver...) If not, though, great kill!

I think he was toying with you cause a 3K launch would bog you down bad and you shifted at 8K and not 9K.

S2000 Driver

We aren't going to have to discuss those stats again, are we???

Let's remember that alot of Cobra replicas are not very good replicas. In my mind, the only Cobra worth purchasing is a CSX series car. They cost more, but you get what you pay for.

Also, a built 350 (probably a 351, however) in a Cobra will also destroy a S2000 in a straight-line if the driver has any idea how to drive.

OK, how about a 351-equipped Cobra in which the motor wasn't taken out of a 1976 T-bird would smoke an S2000? Those engines if done right at all put out lots of power. I guess I just assume people would do it right, bad assumption I guess.

Yea, if it were a Chevy 350 - what a piece of junk.

The 351 Cleveland is a great engine, but its no 289 or 427 for that matter.

let's be honest here...
no way, no how our (beloved) S2000 beats a Cobra unless the Cobra driver isn't trying or is a total ****-up. and that goes TWICE if the person driving the S2000 launchs at 3k.
period.

My '56 F-100 Pickup Truck with its' 351 Cleveland enigine will smoke my S2000 in a straight line anyday. Then again it will smoke stock Shelbys too.

Hmm, confusing. THe 3G launched was clean, just ride the clutch a tad to get a smooth launched without the bog. 8G shifts were pretty smooth and sounded like there was more power past 8gs. I dunno i think the guy was giving all he had, but it was a replica Shelby cobra, probably a bad replica. I still think the s2000 can hang with some of the best muscle cars
