Default smoking amber lenses instead of clearing them

I was wondering if anyone has tried applying several coats of smoke paint (ive seen it for sale specifically for doing tail and head lights) to the amber turn signal lenses. Ive seen many peoples lenses that have the amber piece removed and personally think it looks a little unfinished Just wondering if anyone has tried this? Does anyone know how much it would hide the amber color? I also think the really dark turn signals would look pretty mean as i have seen on someone's thread the reflector painted black but with no lens.

Anyone want to donate their removed amber turn signal lenses?

I don't think you would be able to get a bulb bright enough to make it worthwhile. By smoking it you would pretty much render it useless.

Well the spray was designed for smoking tailights so i figured that it would look pretty good.

We tried this on a spare headlight assembly and then inserted it into my front end to see how the light would saturate the smoke color.

The verdict?

Definitely cool and doable, but we used a little too much of that cover paint stuff...using just enough to hide the amber will work and allow enough light to come through the smoke. We also surmised that a brighter bulb would also help get the light through. I would do it, but it's not a huge deal on a red car where the ambe blends in more so than the other colors, esp black and white.

Here are a couple shots...

Thats perfect. It's the exact way i want my headlights to look. Guess i just found one of my free weekends projects. That is exactly the kind of pics i was looking for.

Greg just got back from japan... and thanks for the suggestions on the places i should go. I was dissapointed with mugen though... really wished i could have gone on a tour.

Glad I could help out on your tip to Tokyo. As for the tour of Mugen, that was set up for us by Scott at King MS...I couldn't have helped you out there. But I'm glar you had fun over in that amazing city...

As for the spray stuff, I don't know what it was called. I'll have Luder respond to this as he knows, it was his. I think he got it from Mark DiGrappa. But I'll ask him to post here for you.

Glad you liked the pics and found them helpful.
