OK. It's official. The Blizzak LM-22's rock! I just drove them back from the installer. They barely changed the feel of the car. (Ride is ever so slightly softer, and small turns of the wheel get slightly less response.)

When I pulled into my parking garage, the top floor (which is outdoors) had frozen snow all over. Being a moron, I started doing clutch drops and fast turns (it's only 8 stories high!), and the tires gripped everything hard. I was pulling on sheet ice like it was ordinary pavement. Very impressive.

I recommend them. (They're much better than Cats. I'd use them again and again.)

Gee.....tire rack told me the LM-22 were better. I doubt our winter conditions are that different. Maybe they just suggest the most expensive set at the time you call.

I just got the Blizzak LM-22s.
I will have them mounted in the next few days.

My vote goes to Blizzak MZ-01, I think. I forgot which is the model number. but, it is the one with square pattern and they called it ice grabber.

It is great. If you live in 18 inches of snow like I do. (You can ask Jay Li for that). You have to get the one I have got. If you live somewhere a little south of us, LM is the best bet for not much snow on the road.

Thanks for the help. After reading the other threads, I ordered some Blizzak MZ-01's and new wheels. I would like to be able to drive my fun car everyday, but with the stock tires, it's dangerous in ANY snow. I had to drive my 4wd truck today because of a little snow...not nearly as much fun. I should get the new tires by the end of next week (from tirerack).

I think I would make the same choice Brad did, after talking with Walt at tirerack 1-888-541-1777 x 372.

Walt said the Blizzak MZ-01 and Michelin Arctic Alpins are comparable tires. He said the Blizzak LM-22 and Michelin Pilot Alpins are comparable tires. The first pair is cheaper and not H rated, but, because it is not a "high speed" tire, it can be built to be better on ice.

Thus, the MZ-01 / Arctic Alpins would be better for someone in snow country who didn't need to worry as much about performance in the winter. The LM-22 / Pilot Alpin would be better for someone who did need performance in the winter (lots of interstate time even in winter) and was willing to sacrifice a bit of ice and snow performance.

Walt felt the Blizzak MZ-01's are better than the Michelins Arctic Alpins and the Michelins Arctic Alpins don't have an appropriate front tire size for the S2000.

Walt suggested that if I wanted a winter wheel to avoid mounting/unmounting on the stock wheels, he would recommend getting SSR Integral 5 spoke wheels in 16x7 size (front and rear) and getting 205/55/16's at all four corners. The SSR wheels are $265 each. This would degrade performance, improve snow traction, permit front / back rotation and preserve the stock wheels from damage during tire remounting twice a year.

Prices:
205/55/16
Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-01 $97 each
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 $111 each
Michelin Pilot Alpin $105 each
225/55/16
Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-01 $118 each
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-22 $139 each
Michelin Pilot Alpin $124 each

Notice that Walt recommended the LEAST expensive tire of the three as best for my needs (priority: ice then snow then highway).

What do I plan to do? Not sure. If I keep my '93 Prelude as my primary ride in winter (and also to tow my motorcycle and carry my skiis or bicycles to the mountains), why bother with winter tires at all. If I do bother, I'll just get the MZ-01's and have Valley Motor Honda do the change over. If I decide to let go of the Prelude and drive the S2000 all year, I'd get the MZ-01 and maybe invest in the SSR Integral wheels and put 205/55/16's all around in the winter.

Sorry for being so long winded, but I thought Walt's description might interest others and clarify some of the various advice we've gotten from different tirerack salesmen.

Yels2kma

Congratulations.

It's a nice light snow day today. I took the T though.

I have not seen a yellow one in town.

Where are you and which dealer did you work with?
