Snubbed by one of us!
So this morning on my way to work (in my 2 week old silver /red) I pull up to a light right next to a black / black S2K.
I am super excited because this is the first time I have been near another S2K. I look over at the 50ish guy driving and wave & smile - he looks at me - then the car - then back at me - and turns away with a 'snooty' look. I realize I may not look the type to be driving such a nice car (I'm 36 and own a snowboard shop - so I dress / look / and act a lot younger) BUT what the heck? Everyone else that sees the car is happy / smiling / waving / etc.
I guess some people are just born a--h---s.

Sorry to hear about the a-hole this morning. Most of the S2K community does not behave like that. Most of us are enthusiasts and love the idea of someone else experiencing this wonderful little car.
I also bought my 2001 silver/red about 2 weeks ago. Beautiful combination, I think. I set out intent on buying the Spa Yellow (I have loved that color since I saw it on a NSX being built when I toured the Tochigi factory a few years ago). My fiance' wasn't quite as enamored with the idea of having a bright yellow car.
You see, I am of Hawaiian descent and sport a shaved head and goattee. Despite working in corporate finance for Citigroup, I manage to wear jeans and Reyn Spooner aloha shirts most every day of the week. I guess you can say that I stand out like a sore thumb in a world of stuffy bankers wearing Hugo Boss.
Don't get me wrong, I have no beef with that choice. I do; however, have a beef with those that don't appreciate my choice. I have worked long and hard to get where I am and frequently battle stereotypes from folks who have an old fashioned mind set and struggle to see a young guy who dresses as I do become successful in a profession that is very conservative by its very nature.
It is that old school mind set that I did not want to do battle with by getting the yellow car. Bright yellow has become a very popular color with alot of the young kids in S. California. UCI has got tons of hopped up Civics, Preludes, Integras, etc. that these kids pour their hearts and souls into. Many of them have gone the extra mile and had the cars repainted yellow. Not my cup of tea, but more power to them I think. They are enthusiastic about their cars and I applaud that.
I guess, I just chickened out because I did not want to deal with the stereotype and be immediately classified as one of these kids by the kind of butthole that you encountered this morning.
My advice. Forget that clown. He probably bought the car only for the purposes of trying to make a quick buck on resale.
Go out, get your first 600 miles on that baby and enjoy it.

Thanks
I have worked my butt off for half my life to be able to get a car like the S2000, and no jacka-- with a cell phone in one hand and a mocca frappe latte in the other is going to spoil it. I was just shocked to have it happen after the 'happy' atmosphere here online.
p.s. I just did my 1000 KMs (canada) and VTEC is a wonderful thing.

It's ok... I'm 24... I often get looks when I drive around... you know, the "I'm sure your mom bought that for you look". Guess again.
But I guess that look is better than someone who's new to the company, who's a consultant even, make very negative statements about you when they have NO CLUE about the application in question. I heard that this person said that I am not a team player... well sorry I didn't answer the question the way you liked to hear it, but it was the truth and I didn't know of any other ways...
man, I wished I had my s2000 right now.... ARGH!

Yeah I got snubbed by my own kind also. I was borrowing my uncle's old hoopty and saw a brand spanking new yellow one (the first one I've seen in person). I started talking to him about this board and stuff and he just kinda gave me the brush off. Maybe it was the fact that I wasn't driving my own(which I had the right mind to go home and bring it back just to show him what's up). But I figured I wouldn't waste my time on someone whose too snobby to be taking complements from a fellow owner even if he is driving a different car.
To Da Happa: More power to ya braddah!! I'm kind of an outcast at my company too. I'm an engineer but do not look like your "typical engineer." I dress casually and have high-lighted hair. Everyone around here is pretty cool about it though. Keep it up.

I think you guys just happened upon some unhappy folk (some in every bunch). I was driving around in my raised suburban w/Harley sticker all over when I came up on a silver S2K. Since we were stuck in traffic, I started talking to him about the car and he was totally cool about it even if he was the type to have a latte in one hand and a cell phone in the other.
Don't judge the book by the cover, read it and then you'll know what it's all about.
