so can i get one or no?
I was in a situation where I should not have gotten my S2000 and I posted about it and everyone told me not to. Well as you can see it didn't matter because I got it anyways but I made sure I did not make it a priority.
So basically even if everyone says no, you are going to do what you want to do and have an excuse for everyones input. Just make sure that you take care of everything else.

Maintenance is really not much more expensive or more at all. Use normal fluids, plenty of good affordable tires(go through them quickly) but they are summer tires so to be expected. So really maintenance imo doesn't cost more than other cars at all. Don't really get where the whole this car is so expensive to maintain aspect comes from really.
If you can afford it go for it. But definitely something you need to decide for yourself not for us to decide for you.
Good luck!

I've found that Maintenance isn't as expensive as most people think...The major things you'll be doing depending on the mileage you buy the car at is changing fluids/spark plugs/air filter(basically a good service) and then you can get further into bushings/tie-rods if necessary at that point. Tires aren't that bad, that's just something you have to live with. I've found they're just as easy to work on as my past Civics and other Honda vehicles so there should be no issue there.
I did see higher insurance mentioned...not sure how that factors in for some people however I pay $118/Month for full coverage and my previous driving history is hysterically bad(when I was younger) but being over 25 helps with that a lot now. Having a kid will also help with insurance.
I say go for it, if the wife is on board with it get what you want. Just don't get too excited and buy the first car you drive. Make sure you pace yourself and find the car you REALLY want, you'll thank yourself in the end.

You make $1300 a month with a wife and kid, living with your parents and you want an S2000?
I'd be driving a cheap reliable shitbox and saving as much money as possible while trying to find a better job, but that's just me.
