So has everyone with a FI S2k gone through either an axel or a differential?
Hey guys,
I've been lurking on these forums for 3 years now and I can finally get an S2k. Two of the main problems with the S2k seem to go hand in hand: the lack of power compared to some of the competition and the fragility of the drivetrain. I've always been a believer that power can always be added so I should go with the car with the better handling dynamics and intangables, but this talk of blowing axels and differentials with superchargers or even natrually aspirated has me worried. I've basically considered everything from chipped Audi S4 (B5 platform), to used 330ci's and (e36 & e46) M3's, to 350Z's and G35 coupes. Compared to these cars, the S is underpowered and I had planned to correct this by adding a Vortech or Comptech Supercharger down the line. So, the question I pose is if anyone has had a supercharged or turbocharged S2k for a considarable amount of time without blowing axels or differentials?

No. Not a single problem in over 2.5 years. Had the clutch buzz done but that's just a cosmetic thing. A very very small number of people have had the problems you refer to and I can't think of a car on the road that is not susceptible to the kind of abuse that causes it.
Well that does make me feel better but the recent forced induction thread that is on the first page of S2000 talk right now seems to point toward S2000's having problems with the extra power. Certainly I'm not expecting this car to be a TT Supra, but I would like to be certain that it would be built strong enough to take another 80-100 hp without everything falling apart. Note: I dont plan on launching EVER in this car...no trips to the drag strip for me.
ITR,
I would assume that if you are willing to spend the big bucks to buy this car then put FI on it, you can afford to beef up the diff. You might want to go to Comptechs website. They have a diff reinforcement upgrade that you should invest in if you feel that it is necessary.
