Many Honda service departments send out their convertible work to specialty shops because they have little experience with ragtops. My soft top replacement (under warranty) was sent out by Honda.

You could do it yourself or have someone else. There is nothing magical that the dealer can or will do, in fact they would have very little experience with convertibles because the S is the only Honda convertible they have ever seen. If you do a search, you will see directions on here of what it takes to do it. A competent shop could handle it as well as any competent person. Since you have no warranty, there is little reason to pay dealer rates for them to install it. If you had a warranty, then it might make a little more sense.

My car is s2k01. I got my 03 rear glass top from local honda dealer and done it in the bodyshop. I think they sent my car to some specialist shop to do it. It cost me $900US+installation fee to have it replacement.
