Default Soft top and rain...

Just wondering about the soft top and rain, car would be a daily driver, do I need the hardtop for those rainy days? I plan on keeping the car for a long time... Thanks

I don't think rain or water in itself is a problem, but dirt is, and wet roads generally means a dirty car. Dirt and dust is abrasive to any soft top cloth, so I'd advice you rinse it off with a regular water hose (not high-pressure) quite often, and treat it with some suitable product every now and then.

I'd guess in Cal. the hard top wouldn't be used as much as one from a more frigid area. Just wash the softtop everytime you wash your car, you'll find you will do it quite often.

What is a "suitable product" for the soft top. I have been looking for something that would help protect it (in SoCal I am particularly worried about UV rays) and have not been able to find anyone that can recomend anything to help extend the life of the top. Do you guys have any suggestions?

1) The top is fine in the rain. I've driven through some torrential downpours and never had a drop of water enter the cockpit.

2) You can use either Vinylex or 303 Aerospace protectant to keep the top in good shape and protect it from UV.

It has been my daily driver for over 3 years. The top has never leaked, even in some very strong Texas "gully washers".

heres all you need:

303 protectant for the soft top and some sort of plastic cleaner if you have the plastic window. and to keep the rubber seals from cracking over time you need to get a bottle shin etsu grease. one bottle is more then enough for a lifetime.

personally i use 303 everytime i wash the car however i use the shin etsu probably one every two or three months.

chris

oh and with the 303 my top looks better then when it was brand new.
