Default soft top slow to go up after sitting.

I am looking at a 2007 s2000 with 10,000 miles on it and the top needs a little help going up. Owner state the top has not gone up and down more than a few times since summer. Is this common from sitting?

Mine is MY07 and has done a bit of sitting with no adverse effect on top up/down speed. Have you checked out the rest of the car thoroughly or had it done by someone else?

Is the engine on when your putting it up and down, or is it just the battery powering it?

Slick glad you asked the question. The mechanic had no issues with the top when the motor was on. The issue was only under battery power. Since the car was sitting most of the winter do u think it is safe to assume the issue was the battery? Thanks for all the advice guys.

Yep, it clearly sounds like a battery problem. My MY07 will drain the battery flat after 3-4 weeks (security system and who knows what else). Automotive batteries don't like to be drained dead; there are special "deep cycle" batteries that can handle it, but auto batteries will be damaged. You need to put your battery on a trickle charger if it's going to be stored for long periods of time. I got a "desulphating" charger which actually extends the life of the battery, but at least put it on maintenance charge. A single complete/dead discharge can ruin an automotive battery.

Other than the battery, what sort of shape is it in. That's pretty low miles for an '07. I got mine just over a year ago with 6k miles for $22k and thought it was a good deal.
