Thumbs down SOFT TOP WEAR PREVENTION?

Hello,

Sorry for bringing this up from the past but i noticed you guys never talked about a solution (without buying a new top) for wear and tear on the soft tops if you dont have a warranty. There are fine score marks on each side of my soft top and no real problem yet. I was wondering is there any way to prevent this? I was thinking of putting a few layers of tape on that area so when it rubs it will just rub on the tape. What do you guys think?

Thanks

I used silicone sealant and vinyl to put patches on both sides where I had wear marks.

so you used the silicone as an adhesive and the vinyl as a patch on the inner side? How does it look? not to noticeable? Do you think it has prevented any further wear marks? Do you have any pics?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for the reply

Correct. I used the silicone as an adhesive on the inner side. The vinyl is black so it's not noticeable at all. As you probably know, the wear marks occur in a location that you probably wouldn't look in anyway, so unless you really know what to look for, you wouldn't notice the patches at all.

The patches seem to have done their job and I haven't had any problems since.

I'll try and take some pictures tomorrow.

i actually was lucky enough to have my dealer take care of it. they sent it to a soft top repair and restoration shop. they installed a long strip of extra heavy canvas that runs the length of the bracing area where damage happens and there is no way this baby is gonna wear thru.
