Default Soft Top Woes

So I've had my car for about 7 months now, when I purchased the car the top was pristine. I made sure to check the common wear spots before I bought it. I guess the previous owners must have never put the top down. I have always taken extra care of my top with 303 aerospace, made sure the middle bar is pushed back when the top goes down, and as always latched the latches when the top goes down. However, to my dismay, I found a inch sized tear along the passenger shoulder side. Here are the pics:

QUESTION:
I can't seem to find if anyone has had theirs replaced around the end of their warranty. According to the dealership I took it to 3 weeks ago, I would be OUT of warranty by about 2-weeks as of today. However, I remember readingthe transmission woes thread that he was able to get his warranty honored because honda increased everyone's warranty by 5%. Does this only apply to mileage or does this apply to time as well? If so i should have an extra 1.5 months on my 36month warranty.

Also anyone have any advice for someone in my position if I AM out of warranty just incase the 5% only applies to mileage.

Had mine done at around 38k miles, fully covered under warranty. Honda needs to understand that a convertible top should last not just the 3 yr the warranty period, but 5 or 6 years or more if designed right.

I'll consider that if I have to repair it myself. I'm going to be calling the dealership tomorrow about some repairs.

Thanks s2k dude, I hope Nalley honda will fix mine...they've been great so far but who knows what they'll do when it comes to a questionable warranty repair.

UPDATE:
I talked to Nalley Honda this morning and they've agreed to take look at my top. I'm going keep my fingers crossed and I have a new top by the end of the week.

i got my tear replaced under CPO towards the end of the warranty (had few months left)

however, the dealership that fixed it for free also happened to **** up my roll-hoop cover ... so net zero gain

The 5% increase is mileage based, not time as the odometers were off in the cars. Of course this would have nothing to do with time: 36mths is 36 mths right?

In any case if you get lucky Nalley will help you out. You are very close to the expiration date.

Even if you are out of warranty by time and mileage. Honda still has the abillity to "Good Will" repairs at no cost to you. Just be really friendly, state your case, be a customer they really want to help so they can fight for you when they talk to their DPSM (District parts and service manager) you may get out scott free.

It's also noted that you had the concern while still in warranty range (3 weeks ago) so it's the same concern and can really help your case.

ahh, thanks. Thats what I thought but I just wanted to make sure. But yeah I'm definitely cutting it close for my warranty. Hopefully Nalley will treat me right they've always been great...I would also take a heavily discounted hardtop as well

I got my top replaced at 29,000 miles by local Honda dealership. It was ripping in the same place. They did it no problem. If you get turned down, go to other dealers until you get a yes. Good luck.
