I put a patch on the deep wear stripe on mine a couple of weeks ago. Used very thin (thicker didn't work) black vinal from the local cloth store (strip 5"x54" for $.75) to cut a 2.5"x1.5" rounded edge patch. Glued it cloth side to the top with contact cement, as fabric glue was not strong enough and came lose. Raised the top up partly so the total wear area would be exposed behind the top frame member for easier glueing. The patch edges pealed up a bit, so I glued them back down using gel crazy glue. Seems to be working well so far. Earlier I filed down the sharp rounded hinge edge that had a small burr that was cutting the threads in the top (used leatherman tool file). The car is still under warrantee, but I felt having the top replaced would just be another opportunity for something else to get screwed up.

I was thinking of trying something like this, but I was picturing something more like a heat applied wear patch(kinda like an iron-on or something). I'd like to do something before I have a problem, as I can just see the beginnings of wear in the usual spot on the passenger side. Has anyone else done anything like this?

Update 06-25-08:
Nalley honda took a look and told me they were ordering a new top right away and as soon as it gets in they will call me...that was a lot easier than I thought .

Since they didn't mention anything about price I'm assuming they're covering the cost of everything ...guess I'll find out soon.

As for the patches, I'm definitely going to apply some sort of padding as soon as the new top is installed.
Thanks for all the good ideas guys.

^ Is this nalley honda in atlanta? I now have three decent sized tears in my top on my CPO car and would love to have it replaced. For some reason they don't leak when it rains though

Yes, the one in Union City.
What year and mileage is your car? Where did you buy your CPO one? I would assume the dealer you bought it from should cover those repairs since you've only had it for 3 months it seems.

Bump.

I've got the same tear as the original poster but on the driver side of the car.

What's my best bet for patching/preventing it?
