Default Some coward keyed my car.......

Someone keyed the s$it out of my car. My wife took it to work and came home with a big key mark down the side. It's clearly a key mark. All the way down to the primer.

How much will it cost to fix this? I've never dealt with this before. I'm assuming they will have to repair the door and quarter panel? Any suggestions on how much is a fair price to pay?

I'm sorry I can't be of any help in answering your question but I felt compelled to say I'm so sorry to see this picture. Its heartbreaking. I've had another car keyed before just like this and it devastated me so much that I never got it fixed and eventually sold the vehicle 9 years later with the mark. I hope whoever did this suffers a loss or damage to something extremely valuable to him or her.

I am really sorry to see this happen to you... Puts things in perspective for me...

Today my teenage son opened my car door right after I parallel parked and let it swing open. The bottom of the door ended up dragging and scrapping up against the high sidewalk... It wasn't my S2000, but it was a car that I am equally AR about... I just about lost my sh*t...

But the damage that occurred is not very noticeable (even though I will likely need to put a little touch up paint underneath the door to prevent rusting)...

I feel a little bad about over reacting... After all, my son didn't intentionally try to damage my car... The person damage that this person did to your car is both extensive and purposeful, and I wouldn't blame you for losing your sh*t!

I am praying for you that a detailer or body shop can do something for you that won't involve repainting the entire side of the car (and then blending into the adjoining panels)...

Please keep us up to date on what happens here... Sorry man!

My stomach churned looking at the pictures and reading the post. All I can add is I remember watching a video on scratch/dent repair (professional one) how the paint was filled in, dried, and progressively polished and buffed out. Perhaps there is no need to paint the whole enchilada. I would check with several places.

Damn, sucks. I believe the only way to properly repair it would be to repaint the entire panel.

But if you're not after perfection, take a look at this video:

Some paint shops are getting very good. Do some research, & you should find a highly recommended
one in your area.

We had the same thing happen to my wife's inoffensive little Mazda 2, just a few months after we bought it.
We were quoted something over $1000 to repair & paint 2 doors & the quarter panel, so we claimed insurance.

They sent us to a paint shop, who filled the scratch & painted the lower part of the doors, & the
quarter panel. Despite it being a metallic paint, you could not tell it had ever happened even
5 years later when we sold the car.

A couple of years ago I had someone scrape the front of the S2000, from the wheel arch forward, while in a
local car park. There was a slight dent in the body as well. I took it to the same shop. Their repair & paint
of this is totally undetectable, & cost only $280 dollars.

I now have a 1994 Mercury Capri which is the only car we park in supermarket car parks, to avoid these
problems on the better cars. It proudly wears a number of battle scars, earned in the line of duty,
which would disfigure our other cars. Buying a shopping trolley is the best thing I've done since buying
the S.

I've had a number of cars that needed paint work. I use a quality independent bodyshop, not a dealer or chain, that does a lot of work for local car collectors. The rough estimate I use is $500 per panel for prep and paint - a bit less if they spray the whole side.

Someone did this to my Raptor a couple of weeks ago as well, I haven't gotten around to getting it fixed yet though.
