Default Some prepurchase questions for a potential new owner...

Hey folks, I am a new user, not quite yet an owner, i have some pre purchase questions and thoughts.

I will buy new, the price seems to have softened even here in the bay area and i want a properly broken in car and choice of colors(that's the hard part). My only minor, and i mean minor thing to get used to is the lack of guages other than digital and a speedo tv screen, but that will grow on me.

I have driven a 2001r once, an extended drive with the owner and i have vtech'd.
I love this car.

Questions:

1.A/C works or is it a joke(i come from the miata corner)

2.fit and finish, typical honda or ?

3.Quality of workmanship vs. problem areas(again my 2001 Ls has had many problems and it is not very old) Have they worked out the problems that showed in the earlier cars?

4. Do you do most of your own service? Is there a service indicator that comes on and can you reset it or do you have to take it to the dealer??? I not mean just oil changes.

6. How is ride comfort on long trips, say over 200 miles? I like a firm ride but a well designed car will leave you refreshed after a couple of hours. I am looking for comments on how you feel after a long trip(tired or the suspension or ready for more?)

7. I have posted this on my local forum, but I want to see what others have said, so far most have been very very very helpful, so keep it up.

8. I am not looking for the answer to the question of ":should I buy this car?" Just tell me what life with s2ook is like on a daily basis.

9. I have seen here a cool air intake scoop, maybe from another country, goes from teh intake over the radiator, and intakes in front of it, probably some sort of high impact plastic, anyone know anything about this?

10. How many miles you have on your car and how long you had it???, What year is it?.

The disclaimer: Since I am coming from a 2001 Ls 6 speed miata with sport suspension and some mods I can relate this is one quick car, I am not comparring this car to anything else, it is unique. I have owned honda/acura products and think they are some of the best built cars in the world

1. A/C excellent, even with the top down on a sunny day.
2. I think better than typical honda
3. I own a 00 so I've see most of those problem areas, ie, rear window, various TSBs, recalls...all except the rear window have been easily fixed by dealership.
4. Dealership for scheduled service. Yes
5. ???
6. I'm 27, 21 military parachute jumps, 650 jaring military helicopter hours, and my back does better in the S on long trips than in my 98 Accord Coupe. I try to pack light for long trips just to take the S. Drove from NC to lower AL, about 9 hrs and loved it.
8. Love it as a daily driver, just a little obsesive about where I park and how long I leave it.
9. Any thoughts Rick????
10. Bought mine used Feb 02 with 21k. Have 34908 now, and about to take a 4hr road trip tomorrow.
I also think Honda should have included a couple other gages (oil pressure, temp, etc), but don't hesitate if the price is right. Get this glorious machine...you won't be sorry.
A word of caution though...you will probably will get a sunken feeling in your heart if anything happens to it like I did when mine got keyed

A/C is great! Like others have said, even on a sunny or humid day with the top down!

No complaints! Great build quality in my opinion.

I had multiple problems from my '00 S2000. The tranny, clutch assembly and plastic rear window were the major issues. My '02 (thankfully) has had no issues so far.
