Someone backed into me
Hey dude sorry for what happened, but glad that you're ok. I am just wondering why you have to pay your deductible when the accident wasn't your fault. I got his 4 years ago when I was in my accord, I didn't have to pay a dime. I'm just curious, because I don't understand wh you have to pay it. Thanks in advance.
It must vary by state, but if you had uninsured motorist coverage it should have been under that. Which shouldn't require a deductible. But again it varies by state.
Looks like the OP is in Texas, and in Texas you are required by Law to carry uninsured motorist coverage, with no deductible. So you should call your insurance and ask them WTF?!?

Thanks for the input, guys. I'll check with the insurance (Liberty Mutual) to see what the law in TX is. I *do* carry uninsured motorist coverage on my policy, so I need to check with my policy.
That sucks! I'm surprised how low the estimate is. My S got backed into the front drivers side corner about a month ago. The estimates I got to replace the fender and headlight (the front bumper was scrathed but not broken) and then paint (Rio Yellow) were for around $3000. I knew the person that hit me and he had his insurance pay. The quote was for OEM parts. The silver lining in the whole incindent is that now my front end looks brand new again. All the rock chips have been painted over, even the one on the hood got painted over when they blended the paint from the fender to the hood and door. Also, headlights are crystal clear, I made sure they cleaned up the good one so that the two would match since I was getting one new one.
Same here: my own personal cost-esimate was between $3K-$4K depending on the work to be done. By some basic checking around, just the headlight runs around $500-$550, but the insurance's shop adjuster estimated it at $300 (for quality replacement parts). Of course this won't fly with me and I'll demand OEM parts. My insurance company already has sent me the first $1600 in preliminary funds, indicating that when my repair shop of choice completes their own estimate (incl. any supplemental cost not directly visible), they can talk to them and they will authorize the additional funds. (Note, I haven't signed a settlement note with Liberty Mutual yet.)
I just spoke to my mechanic at Goodson Acura/Dallas, and he indicated that the Service King estimate is low since all the parts they've listed are Used Parts. In fact, the mechanic indicated that it would be hard for them to find used parts for the vehicle, anyway. So they're working on the supplemental estimate for sourcing OEM parts and will take it to Libery Mutual for approval.
