I came across the exact same situation for an S2000 advertised in the Autotrader in Toronto Ontario Canada one year ago when I was looking to buy an S2k.

Look up the name and address of the persons who they claim to be, chances are those persons do not reside at that address. They pick an address out of the phone book, post pictures of a fake S2000 that is in mint condition with a stolen VIN number. They want you to transfer money to them in advance, often to an out of country address. All sure signs of a fraud. Ebay specifically states on their website that they don't act as "middlemen" on any sale and do not take money in escrow. The guy I was emailling wanted to ship the car to me by ebay motors, but there is no such thing as ebay motors vehicle delivery service.

Probably right, I doubt they would use a real name and address. I feel sorry for whoever does live at that address, bought the house in 05 near the peak of the real estate boom for $267k, now worth around $210k.

I've seen the same type of scam done on cheap apartment rentals, they pick anyone's apartment condo unit in a high rise building post it on the internet with a ridiculously low rental rate asking for advance deposits. Poor owner of the actual unit doesn't have a clue that their unit is being offered for rent and seen around the world.

Bah, you guys are only saying it's a scam so no one snatches up this deal while you do your research on the car. Well, I hate to break it to you, I already transferred payment to her a few days ago, so IT'S MINE! That's probably why she took down the ad.

I felt kinda bad she has to take such a bath on the car while going through the divorce and everything so I included a little extra on top of the asking price. I don't mind doing that, as I'm still getting such a great deal. Looking forward to coming home any day now to my shiny new CR! Wooooohoo!

still no reponse...I'll send another.

Hey Kristen,

Just wanted to let you know that I am still really interested. Is there any way I could forward you some sort of deposit on the vehicle until I arrive on the 5th? I want to secure this! Before I do though, please send me a soft copy carfax so I can verify the car's status. Thanks a lot. Hope to see you soon

Regards,

Brett

For your sake, I really hope it works out. What a great find. After the fact (at which point we're all smarter) I'd certainly have flown out to Tuscon to purchase and pick up the car.
Good luck. Let us know how it works out.
