Someone Scraped My Bumper
always go with a body shop of your choice. go check your local forums and ask around, because you know the shops they recommend aren't neccessarily the best out there. well, this is definitely a +1 in my book for progressive, i bet you if it had been AAA they woulda made a huge fuss about it...

Go get your own estimates and see how they line up with their estimates.
There can be some issues, but talk to both insurance companies and let them go at it. This is coming from an insurance salesman/cousin/roomie. So I'd say it's pretty good advice.

Question...if I'm taking my car to a body shop should I remove my testpipe and slap my cat back on? I think the county I'm taking my car to requires emission testing where as the county my car is registered in does not. Would the shop report stuff like this?
I work at a high end body shop dealing with insurance companies and customers all day long...
an insurance co. CANNOT tell you where you have to take your car. that's your decision.
if they give you an estimate and cut you a check you can then take that check and estimate where ever you want. We have alot of people that do that here, and when they come in they just sign the check over to our shop. If we find we any additional damage, or feel the car needs more work ie labor, materials, bumper replacement vs. bumper repair, we'll then call a supplement into that ins. co. they may just pay it, or may send an appriaser out again to look at it at the shop. we negotiate with the appriaser to get the car fixed the right way. at that point the ins. co. should send the supplement check directly to the shop.
as for emission testing or reporting any of that stuff I'm pretty sure my shop doesn't get involved in that. we've had cars leave here that are out of inspection, and the cust usually takes care of that on their own, unless they want us to run it to the dealership for them after repairs to get it done... high end cars, high end customers.
Good luck with everything!
