Default Something magical happened to my s2k today

Today I was cruising on the freeway going about 70-75 in fourth, I accidently downshifted to third at this speed and my rpm jumped to about 8k. It scared the shiet out of me because I rarely hit vtec on this car (still trying to learn to drive this car, I bought a used my01 and baby it like hell). I was scared that I might have broke something but everything seemed ok, no burning clutch smell etc. I immediately noticed something different though. My gear box seems much more smoother now and no more 2-3rd grind. The difference is almost like night and day. The shifter seems less resilient than before (could be in my head) though but it seems to go into the gears a lot better now. Its like all this crap in the transmission suddenly disappeared. has anyone experienced this before?

btw, I still have the clutch buzz and "clicking" noise in the rear. going to dealership this week.

umm, your RPM should have only jumped to about 7000-7500 if you went into third and were doing 70-75mph...the mph's in 3rd are very close to 1/100th the rpm.

And I'd believe it'd make the car better...the car BEG's to be driven hard, I'd probably say that you didn't accidently downshift, it downshifted itself because it was feeling deprived

this car seriously scares me more than the evo. It makes angry sounds. I often switch back and forth between the two cars and I am still not used to the 9k rpm. I always find myself shifting much earlier as a habit. Maybe I can test drive a brand new s2k at the dealer and find out how the gear box is supposed to feel.

A brand new one won't go to 9000 rpm.

You're car was probably pissed that you haven't driven her the "right" way yet and decided to guide your shift to the right gear.

A mechanic always told me that Honda VTEC engine get stronger when you drive it hard all the time.

I doubt that hitting vtec makes the engine stronger. I think it has to do more with the ecu. This car probably has one of those ecus that automatically adjusts itself depending on how you drive. my is300 had the same problem where if you drive slow, the car becomes slow overall because of the obd II. Once you reset the battery/ecu, vvti hits a lot stronger. I noticed the same thing in the s2k. It seemed slow when I first got the car, but when I reseted the battery all of a sudden vtec hits a lot harder. Its a beautiful thing, the 9k rpm I just need more "room" to let it stretch! By the time I flirt past 7-8k I am already breaking the speed limit.

i agree. if i drive like a wuss, the car feels bad and the shifts are rough, but once u open it up, something feels more right, so i dont think it's in ur head.
