Sound proofing the S2k?
With the expectamt quotes of "YOU WANT TO WHAT???" I am considering doing some sound proofing of my S2000.
I love the car, plan to keep for a long while and take lots of trips(top up and down). I am more than satisfied with the performance and do not consider the car very noisy compared to lots of other roadsters.
However....I am blessed/cursed with significant hearing loss(it kept me out of Nam - good, but I have a lot of trouble with conversations with my significant other etc. etc. - not so good). As a result I believe sound deadning would be to my benefit.
Question? Has anyone ever had experience with this? I suspect the safest bet would be some matting in doors, under carpets and rear walls and convertible top well, with maybe not much need to do the trunk to save a little weight.
Is this a good approach? I already have a top liner and it works ok. I need some advice, I want keep the car.
Thanks for any input.

For top-down excursions, I would highly recommend looking at a 7/8th or full height air screen to replace the OEM one. I have both and it is amazing how much the wind noise is reduced. My wife and I can carry on a "normal" converastion now!
Otherwise, I cannot see too much more that you can do that you have not already done. As ChrisS stated, the engine is fairly verbose and you cant change the roadster wind noise by much unless you get a hardtop and line that top with insulation. I think most of the noise is coming thru the top half of the car, not the door and floors. Good luck either way!

I've sound deaden a couple of cars... but all of them have been closed top cars. The one thing I could recommend is getting a hard top... for long trips. If the top is down, no amount of sound deadening would help. The 7/8th wind screen should help out...
I can honestly say it is not worth the effort. I am deaf with 95% hearing loss and I own a 2001 S2000. Now, I did not do anything with the car as far as soundproofing, But I do know someone that did with a Miata convertible. It really did not help at all. Of course the structual integrity of a Miata is different than the S2000 but I am pretty sure it wouldn't help that much since it is a convertible. Whenever I ride with my wife she knows the rule on how I drive. Turn the radio down if you want to talk to me and only make the conversation with little traffic going on. Now, I do agree the radio sucks big time. I never use it on the highway by myself cause I can't hear a damn thing from it unless it is cranked up loud which I don't really like. So, I hope this helps.
