Default Source of rodent smell

I'm experiencing a strong almost overpowering rodent smell in my 2003 S2000 that is likely a mouse nest or mouse urine or worse. I'm unable to find the source and wondered if others having experienced similar invasions have determined the likely location of the deposit from which the smell is emanating? Both actual experience and likely suspicions will be helpful. Thank you.

Just a guess but have you checked the cabin air filter area?

No. That's sure a likely suspect. Not sure why I didn't think of it myself. Thanks

I bought an s2000 that had dead mice. The nest was found on top of where the fuel filter is located. As well as the area behind the center console where the 12v outlet. Terrible odor, but once removed the smell disappeared.

Well, the cabin air filter is not the source. I'll check the fuel filter and 12V areas.

You may have to check the undersides of the seats to see if Mr Rodent decided to nest in there. After that, put a blanket on the sill, and on your back, with flashlight or headlight, look all under the dash, both side, to see if one of them nested/died up there. They love eating wire insulation.
If you find nothing, it is possible they are in the console. After that, pop the door panels to see if they are nesting inside the doors.

If the car has been sitting a long time it might be in the engine bay almost anywhere. Check the trunk under the lining. All the other spots mentioned. If it is smelling really bad it probably has not been there all that long. After a spell they dry up.

If I were a mouse, I'd stay in the airbox.

It has:
-Central air
-Great insulation
-Good schools
-Excellent resale
-Good place to raise kids

I always find acorns in mine. I've considered just swapping it out for a CAI.
