That said, when gapping the electrode, you always run the risk of snapping or weakening the connection to the base of the plug if you adjust it too much, so try and move it as little as possible. If you can't get it right straight away and have to bend it back, you should just return it for a new plug.
Also, iridium/ platinum plugs have small, delicate center electrodes that will snap off if you use a coin gapper. That is why you need a wire gapper.

Aim for ~.40 gap with a new plug to get more useful life from the plug.
